Village

Agri is a village in the Syddjurs municipality in the Midtjylland region . It is located on the Mols peninsula , which in turn is part of the Djursland peninsula that forms the eastern part of Jutland in Denmark . The Marguerite Route leads through the village .

church

The small church in the village is near the highest point of Mols Bjerge . The building, built around 1200 as a Romanesque church, consisted of a choir and a nave . Raw field stone was used as a building material for this area. It was later redesigned into a Gothic nave, with the choir directly attached to the nave. The reuse of the old ashlar can be seen in the walls of the white church. The slate-roofed tower and the church porch were added in the 18th century. The former women's entrance with a Gothic pointed arch and the entrance for the pastor with a flat arch were walled up.

Interior

  • Romanesque granite baptismal font with rope decoration.
  • Rural baroque altar with four looped columns. In the middle is a more recent painting called Emaus . On the back panel is a plaque engraved with the names of the pastors who served in the Church. The same carpenter who made the altar made the pulpit and epitaph .

The votive ship hung in the church is the Skjold (shield) from 1881, a frigate with two cannons . It was given to the Church by three young men from Agri.

Lime paintings came to light during the restoration in 1990. They were probably made around 1520 together with the ribbed vault that they adorn. An older inscription and three paintings were discovered on the altar: Moses with the ten commandments , the crucifixion of Christ and the Lord's Supper .
