Udby Church

The Church of Udby located in the former municipality Rougsø (now part of Norddjurs Municipality ), near the Randers Fjord in the northern part of the peninsula Djursland that the eastern part of Jutland in Denmark forms.

The small, whitewashed church of Udby, like many in the region, is related to the aristocratic Skeel and Rosenkranz families . Their manorial chairs bear the year 1688 and the coats of arms of the families. In the nave, some valuable lime paintings , connected by leaf tendrils, have been preserved as medallions from around 1300. Their motifs come from the story of creation. The altar panel and the pulpit date from 1682, the font from around 1500.

A model of a ship hangs near the altar . It is rigged like a frigate , but its type is a corvette . The ship was found on the beach at Udbyhøj. It was washed ashore and is believed to have come from a missing French ship.

In the low tower of the country church there is a bell from 1474 that was rung from the ground.
