The MÁV series 426 (until 2015 6342 ) are local railcars from the Desiro vehicle concept developed by Siemens Transportation Systems (today: Rail Systems ) with a diesel-mechanical drive. The operator is the Hungarian state railway MÁV . Technically, the trains are almost identical to the DB class 642 . Only the vehicle equipment of the Hungarian train control system, Hungarian train radio and retractable steps were added.
history
In April 2002, the Hungarian state railway placed its first order with Siemens for thirteen two-part units worth around 35.6 million euros. In addition to these thirteen trains delivered in autumn 2003, another ten trains were ordered in November 2004 and were delivered by January 2006. All trains were manufactured in the Krefeld-Uerdingen plant. The railcars run daily between the capital Budapest and Esztergom on the border with Slovakia , and on weekends as an InterCity train to Sátoraljaújhely and Baja (via Bátaszék).
Occasionally there are also special trips with the Hungarian Desiro railcars. For example, a special trip from Esztergom to Cologne was carried out with one of the diesel multiple units, which are actually designed for regional traffic, on World Youth Day 2005 .
In 2009 a further eight Desiro Classic were transferred from Greece to Hungary. The vehicles were previously in use on loan from the Greek state railway OSE , which, however, had no further need for the diesel multiple units after electrification measures. These eight units are not owned by the Hungarian State Railways, but are leased by the Greek company Hellenic Shipyards . They are used north of Lake Balaton on the route from Székesfehérvár to Tapolca . For this purpose, the vehicles were adapted to the Hungarian train control system and given the red MÁV color scheme.
