The 5022 series of the Austrian Federal Railways is a diesel multiple unit that was developed on the Desiro platform by Siemens Mobility (formerly Siemens Transportation Systems). It largely corresponds to the 642 series of Deutsche Bahn AG . Additional safety devices as well as a sprinkler system and an emergency brake override were installed.
commitment
In March 2003, ÖBB placed an order for 20 vehicles with an option for a further 40 multiple units. The first 20 vehicles have been in use since September 2005. In 2007 and 2008 the option was put into operation for a further 40 railcars. This means that 60 units are available in the ÖBB fleet.
All diesel railcars of the 5022 series are subordinate to the Austrian Federal Railways - Personenverkehr AG after the ÖBB Group, which has been operational since January 1, 2005 .
The 5022 series is used on the following railways:

Redesign
A repainting in the Cityjet design has been in progress since autumn 2017 . In addition, the interior is being redesigned and seating comfort is increased by installing new headrests (and new seat covers).
The 5022 001 was the first vehicle to be redesigned. This has been used in the new design from Graz and Wiener Neustadt since November 1, 2017. In mid-November 2017, the 5022 003 was presented as the second railcar in the new design at Vienna's Westbahnhof.
