Cityjet ( proper spelling cityjet ) is a brand name that is used for local trains operated by ÖBB . The term was introduced in 2015 for the Desiro ML and initially only used for this multiple unit. In the meantime, the Cityjet design has become the new corporate design for ÖBB S-Bahn and regional transport - it will also be used for the Talent 3 , which is expected to be deployed in Vorarlberg from 2020 and the generation of new diesel multiple units advertised in 2017, as well as the redesign of existing vehicles in progress. On May 19, 2017, the ÖBB published a video showing the new exterior and interior design of the redesigned vehicles.

On December 15, 2019, the new Cityjet Xpress (CJX) local train type was introduced.

Train type

From the timetable change in December 2017, all original REX 200 trains from Wien Westbahnhof to Amstetten via Tullnerfeld will be run with Cityjet sets of the 4744 series. Due to the city jet's maximum speed of 160 km / h, it was renamed REX PLUS . On the part of the ÖBB, these trains were advertised with the PLUS when they were introduced as REX .

Since the timetable change in December 2019, the previous REX trains on the Westbahn route have been operated under the new Cityjet Xpress (CJX) train type .

design

Comfort zone of a converted ÖBB Talent (4023 011)

The design was created by Tricon Design. The lower half of the trains is designed with horizontal stripes in different shades of red, the upper half in white. The area around the bogies , the ribbon windows and the doors are painted black, with a vertical white stripe on the doors in the area of the buttons to open the door to increase the contrast . The driver's cab window is surrounded by a red stripe. The ÖBB cityjet logo is on the side walls.

In the interior, the red and gray "Austria seats" dominate the appearance. In addition, all vehicles in the CJ design have screens for passenger information.

All vehicles called Cityjet must meet certain quality criteria. These include low-floor entrances and air conditioning.

The Vorarlberg TALENT railcars have so far only been redesigned in the interior in the Cityjet design, since these are to be replaced by TALENT3 railcars and transferred to the eastern region.

remodeling

The following new build vehicles have the Cityjet design or this is planned:

The repainting of the following vehicles is also in progress, most of which are currently in the red / gray "oblique design":

The first redesigned vehicle is the 5022 001. It was externally and internally adapted to the 4744 and 4746 series (new design, new seat covers). The 4124 003 is also the first Talent 1 generation railcar .

On November 17, 2017, the 4746 006, the 5022 003 and the 4124 003 were presented at Vienna's Westbahnhof.

By November 2019, a four-part Dosto set with a control car 86-33 007 was the first to be redesigned in the TS plant in St. Pölten. This has been used on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn since the timetable change on December 15, 2019 . The gradual conversion of 100 cars is planned for 2020.

Diesel multiple units of the Deutsche Bahn series 642 have also been in use on the Mattigtalbahn since the timetable change in 2019 . For this reason, TW 642 083 received the Cityjet design in December 2019. In contrast to the ÖBB's own city jets, the DB vehicle is not painted, but simply covered with plastic film.
