Nordjyske Jernbaner is a Danish local rail transport company based in Hjørring .

history

The Nordjyske Jernbane created on 1 January 2001 by a merger of A / S Hjørring Privatbaner and Skagensbanen A / S . The newly created company was initially held in municipal hands and on January 1, 2007 became a subsidiary of Nordjyllands Trafikselskab , which holds 89% of the company's shares. Since the foundation, the route network has been extensively modernized and the vehicle fleet renewed.

On August 6, 2017, the North Jutland region was given responsibility for local transport by the state. As a result, Nordjyske Jernbaner took over regional train operations on the entire Frederikshavn – Aalborg railway line and on via the Aalborg Nærbane to Skørping from the Danske Statsbaner (DSB). To this end, a further 13 new Alstom LINT 41 trains were procured, which serve the Skagen – Skørping and Hirtshals – Hjørring route with the Desiro trains.

Infrastructure

The company operated two lines until 2017, these were the Frederikshavn – Skagen line with a length of 38.8 km and the Hjørring – Hirtshals line between Hjørring and Hirtshals with a length of 17.8 km.

Skagensbane was brought into the new company by Skagensbanen A / S and Hirtshalsbane by A / S Hjørring Privatbaner .
