The Z65 series is a Swedish small diesel locomotive .

history

In the mid-1950s, Statens Järnvägar decided to procure small diesel locomotives of the Z65 series in order to be able to carry out shunting operations in larger stations and the transport of short transfer freight trains throughout Sweden at low cost. The locomotives at Kalmar Verkstad were equipped with Rolls-Royce engines (265 kW), Saab-Scania DFI-14 and Scania- Vabis engines of the type DF-14 (270 kW) and Cummings engines of the type KT1150L (280 kW) . Two locomotives can be controlled remotely with each other.

The locomotives had a color scheme of dark blue, red, and white, similar to the T43 series . In the 1970s, the locomotives were painted in the usual SJ color, orange.

In the 1990s, 50 locomotives were equipped with more powerful Scania engines and radio remote control and were given the series designation Z70 . Other locomotives received a Deutz engine KHDF12M716, but kept their designation. The locomotives Z65 652 were built with a Rolls-Royce C8TFL-MkIV engine as the Z65 10 for the Kumla – Yxhults Järnväg and came to the SJ in 1983, the Z65 700 followed in 1996 from Smedjebacken .

In recent years most of the locomotives have been used by other companies, including TÅGAB , TGOJ and Inlandsbanan AB . Others have been given to industrial companies, some have already been scrapped.

Banverket

Some of the locomotives went to Banverket and are used under the name DAL ( translated: Diesel work locomotive ).
