The Z70 series are a series of Swedish diesel-hydraulic small diesel locomotives that emerged from the modernized Z65 series locomotives .

history

In the early 1990s Statens Järnvägar decided to modernize a number of small diesel locomotives of the Z65 series. The locomotives at Kalmar Verkstad were equipped with new Scania engines (for the previously existing Rolls-Royce engines) and remote control. The locomotive housing had to be raised to accommodate the larger engine. This means that the converted locomotives can be reliably identified and they also received new serial numbers.

GC Z70

When the SJ was split up in 2001, all Z70s were handed over to Green Cargo . Their main task is the shunting operation in larger stations and the transport of short handover trains throughout Sweden. Two locomotives can be remotely controlled with each other.

Most of the locomotives that were taken over are no longer in use at GC. The GC Z70 710 was scrapped in 2005, various copies were sold, another part was parked in Eskilstuna in 2014 . GC 270 705, 708, 709, 712, 734 and 748 are parked. The locomotive no. 719 went to SweMaint AB, Utby (Gothenburg) in 2007, and no. 721 in 2007 to Stena Gotthard Recycling AB, Gothenburg.

IBAB Z70

Z70 716 was sold to Inlandsbanan AB in 2006 and received the number IBAB Z70 716. It stayed there until 2013 and was transferred to Nordic Re-Finance AB.

Tågab Z70

Tågåkeriet i Bergslagen took over the GC Z70 717, 718, 722, 730, 732 and 738 locomotives around 2008. They were given the designation Tågab Z70 with the same company number. Locomotive no. 722 was scrapped in 2013, the 718 was sold to Hector Rail in 2012 .

OBAS Z71

Z71 707 at Ofotbanen

Six locomotives were bought by Ofotbanen AS from Green Cargo in 2007 for use in Norway and renamed the Z71 series. These were GC Z70 702 - OBAS Z71 702 , GC Z70 706 - OBAS Z71 706 , GC Z70 707 - OBAS Z71 707 , GC Z70 729 - OBAS Z71 729 , GC Z70 742 - OBAS Z71 742 and GC Z70 744 - OBAS Z71 744 .

Five of them were equipped with ATC . They received the green color scheme of the Ofotbahn.

CL Z71

After the bankruptcy of Ofotbanen AS , Cargolink took over the locomotives with the same company number in 2008.

NRFAB Z70

Nordic Re-Finance AB , based in Bankeryd, is a finance company that has specialized in the rental of rail vehicles such as locomotives and wagons since it was founded in 2006. The company has the international vehicle owner identification (VKM): NRFAB.

In 2015, NRFAB acquired the following locomotives from Green Cargo, which kept the same company number as SJ and GC: 701, 704, 711, 713–715, 723, 724, 726–728, 731, 733, 735, 736, 740, 741, 749 and 750. The number 716 was already taken over in 2013 by Inlandsbanan AB.

NJJ 740

At the beginning of 2018, Nordjyske Jernbaner in Denmark acquired the NRFAB Z70 740. The locomotive arrived in Hjørring on February 6, 2018 and was used from then on. It was given the road number NJJ 740.

Hector Rail 921

In 2008, Hector Rail bought two Z70s and repainted them in the color scheme gray and orange. They were given the series designation 921 and names (GC Z70 747 became 921 001-2 Jake and GC Z70 743 became 921 002-0 Elwood ). Another 6 locomotives followed, especially former OBAS locomotives. They kept their green paintwork.
