SweMaint achieves an annual turnover of 50 million euros with the maintenance of freight wagons. The company employs 250 people and belongs to the K Group AB in Malmö , which specializes in the manufacture and maintenance of freight wagons.
history
In the course of the liberalization of the state railway company Statens Järnvägar , six independent stock corporations were formed on January 1, 2001, which took on the individual tasks. The workshop and vehicle maintenance business was brought together in the holding Swedcarrier AB , which is owned by the Swedish state. The EuroMaint , SweMaint and Nordwaggon divisions were formed under the holding company .
SJ's network of workshops has been transformed into a commercial company under the name SweMaint AB .
SweMaint has taken over many workshops that the state railway SJ had built across Sweden from the mid-1800s. Most of these workshops played an important role in the development of the railway industry and have historical significance in the various regions.
In the meantime, Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget , which later became Asea Brown Boveri , took over the company, but after a few years it was transferred back to the Swedish state.
In the early 2000s, SweMaint acquired competitors Chr. Olsson AB and Gävle Godsvagnsservice AB before being taken over by K Group AB in 2007 . This made it a sister company of Kockums Industrier , Northern Europe's leading manufacturer of special goods wagons.
Today SweMaint workshops are located at strategically important points across Sweden. In the spring of 2011, the first workshop in Norway was opened in Drammen . The last workshop opening in Kiruna followed in December 2012 .
Work areas
The main objective of the workshop company is the maintenance of the freight wagon fleet in Sweden. In addition to regular maintenance, the range of services includes programs for fleet management, material supply for various transport companies and wheelset maintenance. This is done on the one hand by maintaining the vehicles in workshops at large railway junctions between Malmö and Luleå , on the other hand through mobile workshop concepts.
SJ handed over all reserve stocks of axles and wheelsets to SweMaint, who thus set up a swap pool. If necessary, all axles or wheelsets from this pool can be exchanged immediately. Securing the supply of the exchange pool with high-quality spare parts is another important pillar of SweMaint.
workshops
There are workshops in Malmö, Helsingborg , Nässjö , Gothenburg, Hallsberg , Kil , Borlänge , Gävle , Luleå, Kiruna and Drammen. These are conveniently located at the most important railway hubs in Sweden and Norway. They are supplemented by 30 mobile SweMaint units, among others in Varberg , Norrköping and Umeå , which are requested in case of acute need.
Locomotives
Over the years, SweMaint has acquired various locomotives for shunting work within the workshops, including small locomotives of the Z64 series used by the SJ .
