DB Regio Baden-Württemberg (also: DB Regio BW or Regio Baden-Württemberg ) is a division of DB Regio AG for local public transport in Baden-Württemberg . The organizational unit was founded in 2017 to bundle the activities of DB Regio in Baden-Württemberg and the Stuttgart S-Bahn under one roof.
business
Operation under the umbrella of DB Regio Baden-Württemberg is organized in various regional transport networks.
South Baden
The regional transport Südbaden provides rail transport services in the Rhine Valley ( Rhine Valley Railway ), in the region of the Black Forest , around Lake Constance as well as in the border regions of France and Switzerland .
The following routes are operated by DB Regio in this transport network:
- Rhine Valley Railway ( Karlsruhe - Offenburg - Basel )
- Hochrheinbahn ( Basel - Singen )
- Höllentalbahn ( Freiburg - Donaueschingen )
- Black Forest Railway
The regional transport of the DB Regio in southern Baden also includes the buses of the southern BadenBus (SBG) based in Freiburg. These operate in the regions of Lake Constance, Upper Rhine , Breisgau and also in the Neckar area and carry around 36 million passengers a day. The company has over 250 vehicles, most of which are barrier-free, according to the company.
DB Regio employs 1,200 people in southern Baden and transports around 30 million passengers a year.
Black Forest Railway
The Black Forest Railway has been operated continuously by Deutsche Bahn since 1994 . RE trains run regularly between Karlsruhe , Offenburg , Villingen , Radolfszell and Konstanz . 11 pairs of trains run and transport around 11 million passengers (2015). According to DB, customer satisfaction and punctuality are above average on this route.
Württemberg
The regional transport Württemberg provides on behalf of the transport company in Baden-Wuerttemberg (NVBW) transport services in regional transport on the lines from Stuttgart towards the Rhine, Neckar, Tauber, Danube and towards Lake Constance. On many routes, DB Regio in Württemberg also fulfills so-called transitional transport contracts before the routes are taken over by other operators as a result of tenders.
The DB Regio is repeatedly criticized, especially in Württemberg, due to delays and train cancellations. So since 2011 so-called “sub-network managers” have been in use to discuss the situation of regional traffic in the individual regions, tourism associations and other actors and, if necessary, derive measures.
The two workshops in Stuttgart-Rosenstein , Stuttgart-Stadtpark and FIBA in Ulm are responsible for the Württemberg region .
S-Bahn Stuttgart
→ Main article: Stuttgart S-Bahn
The S-Bahn traffic in the Stuttgart region has been a separate unit with its own management within DB Regio AG since 2002. This unit was incorporated into the DB Regio Baden-Württemberg in 2017 as part of the restructuring and continues to form an independent unit in the parent company.
According to its own information, the Stuttgart S-Bahn transports around 435,000 passengers a day. The transport contract runs until at least June 2032.
Services and competition
In tenders for public passenger transport between the Nahverkehrsgesellschaft Baden-Wuerttemberg (NVBW), DB Regio has suffered significant losses in recent years.
The transport contracts of the Residenzbahn ( IRE / RE services between Schwäbisch Gmünd (since December 2019), Stuttgart , Pforzheim and Karlsruhe ) and the Stuttgart - Mühlacker - Pforzheim / - Bruchsal - Heidelberg (RE) route went to Go-Ahead Baden -Wuerttemberg and Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg lost. According to the Ministry of Transport, the reason for this was formal errors in the DB's offer. DB Regio sued this decision several times, but was not right.
In order to improve the quality of operations in the long term and to properly provide the services for the state of Baden-Württemberg , DB regional board member Jörg Sandvoss put manager Bernhard Weiss, who had previously improved the operational quality of the Munich S-Bahn , at the head of the DB Baden-Württemberg region.
