Interregio-Express
The InterRegio Express , abbreviated IRE is a train type of DB Regio , which only in some German countries is offered. The IRE is a train of rail passenger transport and was introduced to the summer timetable 2,001th Since June 9, 2019, a private railway company has been operating Interregio-Express trains for the first time on the Karlsruhe Hbf - Aalen Hbf connection , which is served by Go-Ahead Verkehrsgesellschaft Deutschland .
introduction
The reason for the introduction of the IRE at that time was the increasing abolition of interregional lines by DB Fernverkehr . As a replacement, some countries then ordered IRE trains for the relevant routes, which are financed from regionalization funds. In addition, the IRE was also ordered on routes on which an Interregio had never operated before (e.g. on the routes from Stuttgart via Tübingen to Aulendorf and from Ulm to Aalen ).
DB Regio also refers to self-operated local rail passenger trains as IRE: From 2010 to 2012, the Magdeburg-Berlin Express , a direct connection between Berlin and Magdeburg , was offered. Since April 14, 2014 IRE trains have been running as IRE1 on the route between Berlin and Hamburg-Altona (via Stendal and Uelzen ). In addition, until September 20, 2014, a pair of IRE trains ran from Berlin Südkreuz via Dresden , Kurort Rathen and Königstein to Bad Schandau on Saturdays .
In contrast to the earlier Interregio, the Interregio-Express can also be used with all local transport tickets in product group C in the Deutsche Bahn price system and with tickets from the transport associations . This led to irritation among travelers, especially in the early days. In addition, the new type of train was initially incorrectly referred to as "Interregional Express" or ironically as "Interregio Replacement". In the meantime, however, the name Interregio-Express has established itself.
In addition to the IRE trains, so-called IRE sprinters , which stop less frequently than the IRE , also run between Ulm and Basel . However, this is not an official type of train in the sense of the transport conditions of Deutsche Bahn AG.

Temporary deployment routes
Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland / Hesse
In the meantime, IRE trains with former IR wagons, which now operate as a normal regional express , also ran on the route from Saarbrücken via Kaiserslautern and Ludwigshafen am Rhein to Mannheim for a year .
In 2001 there were differences in Hesse between Deutsche Bahn AG , which called the lines from Frankfurt via Gießen to Kassel and from Frankfurt via Gießen to Siegen as Interregio-Express, and the RMV , which persistently refused to use this new product name and ordered the discontinued Stadt-Express product until December 2016 .
Furthermore, in some countries, with the introduction of the Interregio-Express, former RE lines were converted into IRE lines. However, the difference between IRE and RE was hardly recognizable, while RE and RB are often easy to distinguish due to the significantly different holding frequencies. The renaming from RE to IRE has now all been reversed.
Berlin / Saxony-Anhalt (without stopping in Brandenburg)
From December 2010 to December 2012 the IRE line 25 ( Magdeburg-Berlin-Express ) ran from Monday to Friday with two pairs of trains between Magdeburg and Berlin. This IRE line, christened Kaiser Otto der Große on December 12, 2010 , was also an independent service from DB Regio Südost . Trains on this route crossed the federal state of Brandenburg , but ran between Magdeburg and Berlin without stopping. The IRE had fewer intermediate stops than the IC on the same route (it also stops in Brandenburg Hauptbahnhof , the Potsdam Hauptbahnhof and Berlin-Wannsee stops were canceled from December 11, 2011 to December 8, 2012 due to construction reasons) and were two to eleven between the two main stations Minutes faster than the IC, which connects Berlin and Magdeburg with a pair of trains. The IC allowed a maximum stay of eight hours in Magdeburg, the IRE from December 12, 2011 to December 8, 2012 of ten hours in Berlin. On December 10, 2012, this connection was discontinued due to insufficient utilization.
The sets of the IRE 25 were prepared from a locomotive of the series 112 and three new Doppelstockwagen formed. According to the description in the customer newspaper mobil in March 2011, the IRE 25 was a prototype for the double-decker Intercity , which will be used from 2013 : there was a gastronomic offer at the seat, luggage racks in the car, carpeting and leather seats in first class as well as sockets on almost all seats. This set has since been in use on the RE route Halle (Saale) –Magdeburg – Stendal – Uelzen.
Bavaria / Saxony
With the timetable change in December 2006, the trains of the Central Saxony Vogtland Express Hof – Dresden were converted into a Regional Express line. The designation IRE has since been used for the Franken-Sachsen-Express Nürnberg-Dresden, which replaced the previous Intercitys . In contrast to many other IRE lines, the Franken-Sachsen-Express was not subsidized by the regional rail transport authorities, but an independent service from DB Fernverkehr. With the timetable change on December 15, 2013, this line was closed. The journeys are now driven as RE under the responsibility of the regional rail transport authority. Traffic in Hof was interrupted because the Dresden – Hof route is electrified, but the Hof – Nuremberg route is not (as of 2016).
Vehicles in regular operation
Various vehicles are used in IRE traffic in Baden-Württemberg, including diesel- powered tilting trains from the 611 and 612 series , locomotive-hauled trains from the 146 and 218 series with double-decker cars and, more rarely, with n-cars . In earlier years, y-cars (on the Stuttgart - Tübingen route) and class 650 multiple units (Regio-Shuttle, in this case no first class was offered) could also be observed in use as IRE.
Additionally people until the spring of 2006 on the route from Karlsruhe via Pforzheim to Stuttgart with the 112 series strung old InterRegio cars in the classic blue color as IRE used by the delivery of new double-deck coaches and locomotives of the series 146 this marshaling is now one but a thing of the past.
Former second-class Interregio coaches are used in the Interregio-Express Berlin - Hamburg; first-class seats are not available. The traffic red painted cars were slightly modernized in the passenger compartment, among other things, the armrests got a wooden instead of a foam pad. The original plan was to replace these cars with air-conditioned cars from the Munich-Nuremberg Express in early 2019 . However, due to delivery problems for the new trains for the Munich-Nuremberg Express, this has not yet been implemented. Many wagons therefore received their last deadline extension.
When Franken-Sachsen-Express diesel-powered were tilting trains of the series used the 612th
