City Express

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stadt-Express (SE) , formerly partly City-Bahn (CB) , was a type of train operated by Deutsche Bahn that connected metropolitan areas with the surrounding area. However, this type of train is still desired by the associations that order the local transport services. As a result, local transport lines operated by private providers still use the name Stadt-Express.

concept

The Stadt-Express had a development function in the surrounding area and stopped there at every train station. In the core area of the metropolitan area, which is accessible by other local trains ( S-Bahn , regional train ), however , it drove faster like a regional express , so only the most important stations were served.

Not all Stadt-Express lines strictly corresponded to this concept, some lines also served all stations in the core area (with the exception of pure S-Bahn stops).

The Stadt-Express was part of local transport and was therefore free of surcharges.

Todays situation

Deutsche Bahn has taken the product IDs SE and CB from the market. Since then, the services have been provided by regional train or regional express services. Some of these lines correspond to the concept of the earlier Stadt-Express lines:

For example, the Regional-Express RE 22 Eifel-Express only stops at important stops between Cologne main station and Kall , after which it stops at all stations as far as Gerolstein . The RE 12 Eifel-Mosel-Express line, which does not run every hour, also runs through this section without serving the intermediate stops.

From December 13, 2015 to December 8, 2018, the name Stadt-Express was also used on line SE 15 between Leipzig and Saalfeld / Saale . This is operated by Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland .

Special case RMV

In Hesse, the name was used by the customer RMV until the timetable change in December 2016. Until then, there were several SE lines there, which serve to connect the Hessian region away from the Rhine-Main area well to the metropolis of Frankfurt am Main and its central transfer hub Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof . If the Deutsche Bahn was the operator, the trains were run as a regional train or regional express.

Since the 2017 timetable year, all previous SE lines have also been run by RMV as regional trains (RB).
