Regional express train

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Regional Schnellbahn , mostly written with Binnenmajuskel RegionalSchnellBahn and abbreviated RSB , was a type of train in German local rail passenger transport . It was introduced in 1987 by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) and finally replaced on January 1, 1995 by the Deutsche Bahn AG by the RegionalExpress (RE) and the StadtExpress (SE). The most important features of the regional express train compared to the conventional express train (E) were the regular service , the use of new or modernized vehicles as well as the painting of these in the product colors of local transport, i.e. mint turquoise and pastel turquoise.

history

The new type of train was presented to the public on April 26, 1987 at an open day in Süderbrarup . The following day, scheduled operation began on the first RSB line between Kiel and Flensburg . The offer was upgraded by a full-day hourly service, stations were modernized and modern class 628 diesel multiple units were used. Smaller stops were abandoned and the rail services systematically linked with shuttle bus lines. This first line was implemented with the help of a framework agreement between the Deutsche Bundesbahn and Schleswig-Holstein , which also provided for the state's financial participation in the optimized local transport offer. This first line should serve as a model for many other RSB projects throughout Germany.

The second route used by the regional express train was Stuttgart – Aalen , where, however, locomotive hauled trains with modernized n-wagons were used. Many more RSB lines followed throughout Germany.
