The Friedrichshafen – Lindau railway line is a continuous single-track railway line in southern Germany, which is to be electrified by December 2021 . The main line connects the Friedrichshafen railway junction in Baden-Württemberg with Lindau in Bavaria , where it joins the Allgäu Railway at the junction in the Aeschach district . The 22.575-kilometer route runs consistently on the north shore of Lake Constance , with the western part in the Lake Constance district and the eastern part in the Lindau district (Lake Constance) . The connection is classified by the Deutsche Bahn AG, which operates it, as part of the Bodenseegürtelbahn from Radolfzell to Lindau Hauptbahnhof .

After Friedrichshafen had a railway connection from 1847 through the Württembergische Südbahn and Lindau from 1853 through the Allgäubahn, the Royal Württemberg State Railways and the Royal Bavarian State Railways finally opened the gap between the two cities on October 1, 1899, whereby also the reception buildings on the Bavarian side are in the Württemberg architectural style. Between Langenargen and Kressbronn, a 78 meter long steel bridge was built over the Argen , which was built by the Esslingen machine factory and later placed under monument protection. In preparation for electrification, it was replaced by a new steel bridge in 2019.

Today the entire route is integrated into the Bodensee-Oberschwaben Verkehrsverbund (bodo) and is mainly served by local rail passenger transport, usually twice an hour in each direction. Here, change regional trains (RB), which usually hold anywhere from railcars of series 628 or 650 are made with regional express from trains on (RE) that usually only turns in Kressbronn and Wasserburg (Bodensee) or in Langenargen and Nonnenhorn hold and made up of double-deck cars . In addition, a single wrong Intercity - train pair (IC) non-stop.
One to two pairs of trains run daily in freight transport, pulled by a class 232 or a class 247 . In addition wrong in the summer months a Kieszug of Rossberg to Kressbronn am Bodensee , of the class 285 is covered and at night discharged in Kressbronn.
