The Friedrichshafen Stadt – Oberteuringen railway line , also known as the Teuringertal Railway , was a branch line in Baden-Württemberg . It ran from Friedrichshafen to Oberteuringen , was 10.42 kilometers long and was in operation for passenger traffic from 1922 to 1960. It had a special meaning in the Second World War due to the operation of the V2 plant.
history
The line only had a relatively short operating time. Teuringertal-Bahn GmbH was founded in the time of crisis after the First World War . The main shareholder was the city of Friedrichshafen with two thirds of the shares, with other neighboring communities and Zeppelinwohlfahrt GmbH also involved.
The operation, led by the Württembergische Nebenbahnen AG, started on June 2, 1922. The standard-gauge line led from the Friedrichshafen Stadt station of the Deutsche Reichsbahn up the Teuringertal in a north-westerly direction to the Oberteuringen terminus.
However, due to financial difficulties, traffic had to be stopped again in May 1923. A year later, Teuringertal-Bahn GmbH began - now under their own control - to run trains again. In the summer of 1927, three pairs of trains ran daily. It was not until the Second World War that the railroad gained significant importance through industrial operations that were important to the war effort. The Zeppelin works received a new siding in Trautenmühle. Therefore, the company was retroactively transferred to the German Reich on January 1, 1943 and operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The GmbH dissolved on December 3, 1943.
In the post-war period, the Deutsche Bundesbahn stopped passenger transport on May 23, 1954 due to increasing competition from the road. Freight traffic has been suspended from Trautenmühle since February 15, 1960. The remainder was still operated as a siding until 2012.
Two of its own steam locomotives of the Württemberg type T 3 were available for operation, which had been bought second-hand by the State Railways. One later came to the Esslingen machine factory and is still in the Technoseum today.
