Friedrichshafen Stadt station was opened on November 8, 1847, as the first station on Lake Constance, together with the first section Friedrichshafen - Ravensburg of the Württemberg Southern Railway . The station building was built between 1846 and 1848 by the architect Ludwig Friedrich von Gaab . On October 1, 1899, the first section of the line to Lindau was opened, before the line to Überlingen went into operation on October 2, 1901 , making the station a hub station . Two side wings were added to the station building for the two new routes. On June 2, 1922, the Teuringertal Railway to Oberteuringen, operated by Württembergische Nebenbahnen AG , went into operation, which has since been closed. During the Second World War , the west wing was destroyed in an air raid on July 20, 1944; it was rebuilt in its original state after the war.

Infrastructure

The Friedrichshafen city station has five tracks on three platforms, with track 1 on the house platform . All platforms are covered and have digital train destination displays . The central platforms are connected to the main platform and Franziskusplatz via an underpass . Apart from an elevator on platform 1, there are no elevators or ramps, so the station is not barrier-free .

Until November 28, 2004, the station's signals and points were controlled from three electromechanical signal boxes of the 1912 design by Siemens & Halske , which had been opened in 1930, 1947 and 1953. Since November 28, 2004, the station has been controlled from an electronic signal box from Lorenz.
