The Singen (Hohentwiel) Station is an important regional railway junction and interchange in southern Baden-Wuerttemberg , where today three, but sooner five railway lines meet. The station is an IC system stop on the Stuttgart - Zurich route .
Surname
The railway station is officially called Singen (Hohentwiel) . Due to its size and importance for the district of Konstanz , the station is also known regionally as Singen Hauptbahnhof . In addition, the abbreviations Singen (Hohentw) , Singen (Htw) and just singing are also used .
Railway lines
Singing is the starting point of the Gäubahn to Stuttgart . On this route, the city is, among other things, a stop for the intercity trains between Stuttgart, Singen, Schaffhausen and Zurich . The trains of the Black Forest Railway , which connects Singen with Offenburg and Konstanz , also stop in Singen . The Hochrheinbahn provides connections to Basel .
The Randen Railway from Singen to Beuren-Büßlingen was shut down and dismantled, the "Etzwilerbahn" , which was interrupted in Singen, via Rielasingen to Etzwilen in Switzerland is now used as a museum railway .
history
Singen owes its development from a farming village to an industrial city primarily to its role as a railway junction . The railway first reached the village in 1863, when the Hochrheintalbahn from Basel towards Constance was completed. Ten years later, the construction of the Black Forest Railway from Offenburg to Konstanz was completed, which met the Hochrheintalbahn in Singen. The Etzwilerbahn to Switzerland completed the connection network from which Singen benefited.
Large Swiss companies settled their German branches in Singen, not least because of the good rail connections. The factory workers came to work in large numbers in Singen by train. A separate railway was even built for commuters in 1912: the Randen Railway , which was shut down in 1966.
The railroad used to be one of the largest employers in Singen. The first station building was soon replaced by a solid station building, which is still slightly modified today. The freight yard , which used to be on the other side of the tracks right next to the factories, soon became too small. Therefore, in 1927 they built their own freight yard.
In 1989 the Hochrheinbahn section between Schaffhausen and Singen was electrified.

On June 7, 2008, the ICE multiple units 403 015 and 403 515 ( ICE 3 , 403 series ) were christened Singen (Hohentwiel) at Singen station .

Singen (Hohentwiel) has belonged to the Verkehrsverbund Hegau-Bodensee (VHB) since it was founded in 1996 .
Long-distance transport
Singen station is the system stop for the two-hourly intercity trains (line 87) from Stuttgart via Singen and Schaffhausen to Zurich . It is driven alternately with wagons of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and a Taurus electric locomotive of the ÖBB or rolling stock of the InterCity 2 , the latter also serves the discontinued RE stops. In Singen there is a connection to the SBB-InterCity 4 to Zurich, which also runs with SBB cars. Alternatively, individual IC-2 services are tied through to Constance . Furthermore, on weekends there is Intercity on line 35 via the Black Forest Railway with the IC pair “Bodensee”, which connects Konstanz with Cologne , Münster and Norddeich Mole : Fridays and Saturdays to Lake Constance and Saturdays and Sundays back.
The IC connection "Black Forest" from Hamburg to Konstanz or in the opposite direction to Stralsund ran daily until it was discontinued in December 2014, at the same time as the Black Forest regional trains and replaced them from Offenburg .

Regional traffic
In regional traffic , Interregio-Express and Regional-Express trains stop in Singen, which offer connections to Karlsruhe , Stuttgart , Basel , Constance and via Friedrichshafen to Ulm .
A regional train line connects Singen with Schaffhausen every half hour .
The Seehas regional train , a local train service similar to the S-Bahn , connects Singen with Engen , Radolfzell , Konstanz and some of the Lake Constance communities.
Individual different trains (S22, HzL, RB, IRE) run from Singen to Jestetten , Tuttlingen , Friedrichshafen and Lindau .
