history

Both Mühlhausen and Ehingen were first mentioned in a document in 787/790 in a deed of donation from the St. Gallen monastery . Around 1200 both places belonged to the Reichenau monastery . Between 1230 and 1240 a castle was built on the Mägdeberg by the abbots of the Reichenau monastery . Mühlhausen and the Mägdeberg came into the possession of the Counts of Württemberg in 1358 , and from 1480 to 1806 they belonged to Austria . Ehingen came under the rule of Hewen in the 14th century , whose history it shared until 1805. With the rule of Hewen, Ehingen came to Fürstenberg in 1639 . On May 3, 1800, the village was almost completely destroyed by Napoléon Bonaparte in the Battle of Engen . In 1805 it was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Baden . Mühlhausen became part of Württemberg in 1806 together with the Landgraviate of Nellenburg and four years later also came to Baden.

In the course of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg , the two municipalities of Mühlhausen and Ehingen im Hegau merged on January 1, 1974 and were thus able to avoid being incorporated into neighboring towns.

Partnerships

coat of arms

The coat of arms, consisting of motifs from the coats of arms of the two districts, was awarded by the Interior Ministry on January 20, 1975. From 1902 Mühlhausen carried the coat of arms of the Lords of Friedingen as the municipal coat of arms ; however, the lower field of the obliquely divided shield shows a black deer pole in gold. This modification is an allusion to the so-called Friedinger feud between Württemberg and the Lords of Friedingen in the 2nd half of the 15th century over the rule of Mägdeberg, to which Mühlhausen partially belonged. The lion in the upper field comes from this noble and community coat of arms. At the same time, the Friedinger lion is still used in the arms of Friedingen , Mühlhausen and in the arms of Böhringen . The tree is taken from the Ehingen coat of arms created in 1907. It shows the deciduous tree as the main motif, which can be identified as the seal image of the community since 1820.
