The village of Wiechs and the hamlet of Schoren belong to the former community of Wiechs. history
Environmental-historical and archaeological investigations of the seasonally layered sediments of the Steißlinger See exemplify the development of the landscape over the last 16,000 years for Central Europe. The first archaeological finds in the Steißlinger district go back to the Middle Stone Age. The name Steißlingen itself is of Alemannic origin. The first documentary mention was made in 1155, Steißlingen is mentioned in the so-called Barbarossaurkunde and designated as the property of the diocese of Constance . Around 1400 the place came to the Landgraviate of Nellenburg and with this in 1465 to Upper Austria . A major step in the development, the year 1499, when the village Steißlingen and Wiechs in Swiss war were looted by the Confederates and burned.
The Lords of Homburg (which can be documented since 1096) have been named as Steißlinger landlords since 1287 , who presumably had resided here for a long time and were former ministers of the Bishop of Constance. They remained local lords until 1566. Steißlingen belonged to the knightly canton Hegau-Allgäu-Bodensee of the Swabian knight circle. In 1499 the villages and castles of Steißlingen and Wiechs were plundered and burned down by the Confederates. A castle built afterwards in Steißlingen was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War and was replaced by today's castle in 1724–1726. Since 1672 the Ebingers were the landlords of the castle . After it died out in 1780, the barons of Stotzingen acquired the castle, which they still live in today.
In 1810 Steißlingen became Baden .
When the Stockach district was dissolved in 1973, Steißlingen was assigned to the Konstanz district .
Religions
Due to the fact that it belongs to Upper Austria, the Reformation passed by Steißlingen, so that the majority of the population still belongs to the Roman Catholic Church today. In addition to the St. Remigius Church in the main town, there are also three Roman Catholic chapels. Since 1957 there has also been a Protestant church in the village with the Friedenskirche .

Buildings
- The Steißlinger Torkel : Torkel (from Latin torquere , 'to turn', torculum 'wine press') are both wine presses and the building in which they are located. Construction of the current Torkel began around 1500, and in 1620 there were eight large trukh ' Torkeln ' in the Steißlinger Herrentorkel. In the 19th century viticulture declined due to bad harvests and vine diseases, and in 1912 a fire broke out in the Torkel. Due to new vine diseases, viticulture gave way to fruit growing in 1929, and the Herrentorkel fell into disrepair in the 1960s and 1970s. The first restoration measures were carried out from 1976 to 1979, in 1991 the municipality bought the Torkel, and from 2003 to 2004 fundamental renovation measures were carried out on the building (restoration of the Torkel trees and the Quetsche). In May 2004 the inauguration and handover of the renovated Torkel to the population took place.
- The primary and secondary school , built in 2000, has received several architecture and ecology prizes for its innovative wooden architecture, and in 2014 it was expanded to include a community school.
