He is on the of Baden Basel Bahnhof Waldshut and Schaffhausen by Constance leading Upper Rhine Railway and is the starting point of the Switzerland 's leading route Waldshut-Koblenz-Turgi , which was the first rail link between Germany and Switzerland.

location

Waldshut train station is located on the B34 at Eisenbahnstraße 11, 79761 Waldshut .

A commercial area with retail stores, a fast food restaurant and a medical center has been created at the station.

history

The station building in Waldshut, built in 1856

After the first section from Basel Bad Bf to Bad Säckingen was opened on February 4, 1856 , the line to Waldshut was put into operation on October 30, 1856 . The planning of the station was carried out by senior building officer Franz Keller from Karlsruhe. On November 14, 1856, the Grand Duke visited Waldshut and expressed his satisfaction with the newly built facility. But then further construction in the direction of Schaffhausen stalled . It was not until June 15, 1863, around 7 ½ years later, that the entire railway line from Basel to Constance could be used.

On August 18, 1859, the Turgi – Koblenz – Waldshut line opened a connection to the Swiss railway network across the Rhine to Koblenz in the canton of Aargau . In order to be able to cross the Rhine, Robert Gerwig built the Waldshut – Koblenz railway bridge. The entire railway line including the bridge was built by the Swiss Northeast Railway (NOB).

The Waldshut – Koblenz line was electrified in 1999 and has since been controlled as an autonomous branch line from Switzerland. The end point is track 5, the only electrified track in the station.

investment

Trip position indicator in Waldshut station

Waldshut station has a total of six tracks, four of which have a platform. The two tracks without a platform are used for parking. In addition, there is a siding for several railcars between the route in the direction of Tiengen and track 5, which also includes a petrol station for them.

A special feature is the stump track 5, in which the trains of the Zurich S-Bahn enter and exit. Journeys on this track are not secured via the Waldshut signal box, but from Koblenz. A trip from track 5 to the other tracks of the Waldshut train station is only possible via a switch connection, which can only be changed after a key has been released by the responsible dispatchers on the Swiss and German sides.

There is also a park-and-ride area at Waldshut train station .

Track systems

Waldshut train station still has quite extensive track systems today. Passenger traffic is handled on four platform tracks.

The numbering begins on the northeast side of the reception building .

  • Track 1 is a through track and is the main platform directly in front of the station building. All trains to and from Lauchringen (RB) and Schaffhausen / Singen / Ulm (IRE) run here.
  • Track 2 shares an island platform with track 3 . This is where the regional trains in the direction of Basel Bad Bf start , which only run during rush hour. The special trains to and from wheat also use platform 2.
  • Track 3 is a through track and is located on the platform next to track 2. Today the trains stop here in the direction of Basel Bad Bf .
  • Track 4 was a stump track north of the station building on the same platform as track 1. Today, this track is mostly overgrown and partly dismantled. The thresholds and the buffer stop can still be seen.
  • Track 5 is another butt track with its own platform and is located south of the reception building. This track is the Swiss track of the German station Waldshut. The S-Bahn in the direction of Koblenz (CH) begin and end there .
  • Tracks 6 and 7 are used for parking by freight and regional trains. These two tracks have no platforms.

The platforms at Waldshut station are not barrier-free . Access to the central platform on tracks 2 and 3 can only be reached via the stairs of the pedestrian underpass . Access to the trains is also not barrier-free.

business

Rail transport

Today (as of 2015) the Waldshut station is served by Interregio-Express trains on the Basel Bad Bf - Singen (Hohentwiel) route , which are extended every 120 minutes via Friedrichshafen Stadt to Ulm Hbf . There is also an hourly regional train between Basel Bad Bf, Waldshut and Lauchringen , which is compressed to half-hourly intervals during rush hour between Basel and Waldshut.

Waldshut station also has a connection to the Swiss S-Bahn network. Thanks to the cross-border Rhine bridge between Waldshut and Koblenz AG , Waldshut is the terminus of the S27 ( Baden (CH) - Turgi - Döttingen - Koblenz (CH) - Waldshut) and S36 ( Bülach - Bad Zurzach - Koblenz (CH) - Waldshut) lines of the Zurich S Railway network . The two lines complement each other at 30-minute intervals, although there is always a slim connection in Koblenz in the unused direction (the S27 to Baden connects to the S27 to Bad Zurzach, the S36 to Bad Zurzach / Bülach connects to the S27 to Baden).

From the beginning of May to the end of October every year as well as year-round in school traffic , Waldshut station is also the starting point for individual trains that branch off at Lauchringen station onto the touristically important Wutach Valley Railway and travel on it to Weizen .

In addition, the SBG-KundenCenter Waldshut is located at the bus station , which also serves as the seat of the Waldshut tariff association (WTV).

Rates

The city belongs to the Waldshut tariff association (WTV). In the direction of Basel there are transitional tariffs for the RVF and RVL transport associations . In the direction of Koblenz (CH) and thus to the tariff association A-Welle in the canton of Aargau , Swiss tariffs and the German “Hochrhein-Ticket” apply.

future

The former S-Bahn line 7 of the Regio-S-Bahn Basel operated on the Hochrheinbahn between the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel and Waldshut . These courses are run today as a regional train . Reintegration into the network of the trinational S-Bahn Basel is planned after the electrification of the route.
