The Town (Schwarzw) station is one of two railway stations of Titisee-Neustadt , the other is Titisee . It is located in the Neustadt district at 805 meters above  sea level and is, as of the district Titisee, at the Höllentalbahn that Freiburg with Donaueschingen connects. The station has three platform tracks and belongs to station category 5 of DB Station & Service . The 1887 built station building is now a listed building and houses, among other things, a DB agency with ticket sales.

location

Neustadt train station is about 200 meters west of the center of Neustadt, a district of the municipality of Titisee-Neustadt . The station building stands east of the tracks and has the address Bahnhofstrasse 1 . The station area is bounded to the west by Bahnhofstrasse; at the southern station exit, Saiger Strasse and Schützenstrasse cross the station tracks with level crossings . Behind the northern exit of the station there is another level crossing on Schwarzenbachweg. The national road 172 crosses the Streckengleis using a bridge spanning the entire valley including Gutach and Gutach road spans. To the east of the station there is a forest area to which the federal road 31 connects. There is a park-and-ride car park on Saiger Strasse .

Neustadt station is a through station on the Höllentalbahn ( VzG 4300 ), which runs from Freiburg to Donaueschingen. The Höllentalbahn is a single-track main line and electrified over its entire length. In Kursbuch the Deutsche Bahn , the electrified leading from Freiburg to Donaueschingen section is called a track 727 Kursbuch

history

In 1882, construction began on the Vordere Höllentalbahn from Freiburg to Neustadt, and on May 21, 1887, the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways opened the railway line. The Neustadt station received a locomotive station as the terminus with treatment systems for steam locomotives and a locomotive shed . A goods shed , a loading ramp and a loading street were available for goods traffic, and a siding to the Fürstlich-Fürstenberg paper mill was built a few years after the line opened . Due to a lack of financial resources, the further construction of the Höllentalbahn from Neustadt to Donaueschingen was delayed , so that the line could only be opened on August 20, 1901 and Neustadt thus became a through station. In 1910 Neustadt received its own steam storage locomotive for the siding to the paper factory , in order to be able to cope with the journeys from Neustadt to the paper factory. Another steam locomotive followed after the First World War .

In the 1930s, the Höllentalbahn from Freiburg to Neustadt in the Black Forest was set up for operation with electric locomotives . A system with a voltage of 20,000  volts at a frequency of 50  Hertz was used , with which the then Deutsche Reichsbahn wanted to investigate the suitability of the electrical current obtained from the general network for rail operations. The electrical test operation began on June 18, 1936, the construction costs amounted to 7 million Reichsmarks. The Hintere Höllentalbahn on the section from Neustadt to Donaueschingen, however, was not electrified, so that trains from Freiburg to Donaueschingen had to be reloaded in Neustadt. For this purpose, the station received a three-hour roundhouse , which was intended for the electric locomotives. There was a two-tier, rectangular locomotive shed for the steam and diesel locomotives. After the Second World War, there were three tracks for passenger traffic , which were located on a central platform and on a house platform . On May 20, 1960, the Höllentalbahn was converted to the current German rail system. In the 1980s, the paper mill's steam storage locomotives were taken out of service, and diesel locomotives were used until the plant was shut down in 1988. One steam locomotive was scrapped, the other is still a memorial today. In the 1990s the depot in Neustadt became superfluous because all train services in Neustadt were broken. The two engine sheds were then torn down. The two mechanical interlockings were taken out of service in 1991. The station is remote-controlled from the signal box in Titisee .

construction

The reception building of the station was built in 1887 with the opening of Höllentalbahn. It is a two-story plastered construction with a small attic in the center of the building. In the station building there used to be service and waiting rooms, on the ground floor there was a signal box, a ticket office, a waiting room for third class and one for first and second class. Today the building is a listed building , it houses a customer center of Südbadenbus , a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn .

The station has four tracks, three of which are platform tracks . Track 1 is used by trains to Freiburg Hbf. Platform 2 is used by the trains to Donaueschingen or the trains ending here from Freiburg Hbf. Track 3 is only used on Sundays and public holidays for some trains from Freiburg Hbf. Tracks 2 and 3 are located on a central platform , which can be reached via an underpass and two elevators. The height of the platforms above SE is 55 cm. The useful platform length of track 1 is 185 m, that of tracks 2 and 3 205 m.

The electrification of the Höllentalbahn from Freiburg ended in Neustadt . While the trains to Freiburg benefited from it, the trains to Donaueschingen had to make do with diesel locomotives. For this reason, almost all trains ended in Neustadt. But there was a train in the morning that ended and began in Titisee. In the past, diesel multiple units of the 611 and 628 series mostly used the route. Until it was discontinued in 2003, the Kleber Express ran the entire route of the Höllentalbahn, but did not use the electrification of the western part. Nowadays, Alstom Coradia Continental (ET 1440) travel the route in single or double traction.

Rail transport

Former passenger traffic

After the opening of the Höllentalbahn in the section from Neustadt to Freiburg in 1887, there were continuous train connections from Neustadt to Freiburg. After the Höllentalbahn was extended to Donaueschingen in 1901 , continuous express trains were also used from Freiburg to Donaueschingen. Just a few years later there were also continuous trains to Ulm. When the Vordere Höllentalbahn was electrified in 1936, the connections from Donaueschingen to Freiburg were partially broken, most of the trains were reloaded in Neustadt. The steam locomotive operation on the Vorderer Höllentalbahn was given up just a few years after electrification. In the 1980s there were continuous express trains from Freiburg to Donaueschingen and individual additional regional trains that began in Neustadt. The express trains ran from Donaueschingen to Neustadt with diesel locomotives , an electric locomotive was harnessed to continue to Freiburg . At the beginning of the 1990s, almost all continuous connections on the Höllentalbahn in Neustadt were broken. Since then, double-decker cars with class 143 locomotives have been running on the Vorderen Höllentalbahn , which were replaced by the class 146 in December 2016 . Class 611 or 628 diesel multiple units on the Hinteren Höllentalbahn .

Today, three regional traffic lines to Freiburg and Donaueschingen begin at Neustadt train station ; there are no continuous connections between Donaueschingen and Freiburg via Neustadt. All trains of the Höllentalbahn are broken in Neustadt, as only the section from Freiburg to Neustadt is electrified. The regional express from Ulm via Sigmaringen , Tuttlingen and Donaueschingen runs the Hintere Höllentalbahn every two hours, it is operated by DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee with diesel multiple units of the 611 series . The regional express from Neustadt via Donaueschingen and Villingen to Rottweil , which also runs every two hours, runs hourly on the Hinteren Höllentalbahn. The Regional Express also runs with class 611 railcars from DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee. The Höllentalbahn on the section from Neustadt to Freiburg is served by regional trains every hour, the trains are operated by DB Regio Südbaden with class 146 locomotives.

Breisgau S-Bahn

The transition concept for the S-Bahn Breisgau will start on February 17, 2020. Therefore, the new S-Bahn line S10 runs from Freiburg Hbf via Neustadt (Schwarzw) to Villingen (Schwarzw) every hour. The S11 runs every hour from Neustadt (Schwarzw) to Titisee with a connection to the S1 from / to Breisach. This results in a 30-minute cycle between Freiburg Hbf and Neustadt. On Sundays and public holidays, the S10 Villingen (Schwarzw) -Freiburg Hbf and the S11 Freiburg Hbf-Neustadt (Schwarzw) every hour. However, these only result in a 20/40 minute cycle. New vehicles from the 1440 series (4- and 3-part) in the new yellow-black paint scheme are used.

Train type course Clock frequency
RE Neustadt (Schwarzw) - Donaueschingen - Immendingen - Tuttlingen - Sigmaringen - Herbertingen - Riedlingen - Ulm Every two hours
RE Neustadt (Schwarzw) - Donaueschingen - Villingen (Schwarzw) - Trossingen - Rottweil Every two hours

Freight transport

A goods shed , a loading ramp and a loading street were available in Neustadt for goods traffic , where agricultural products and general cargo could be loaded. A few years after the opening of the Höllentalbahn, a siding to the Fürstlich-Fürstenberg paper mill was built in Neustadt. Around 1900 the volume of goods traffic increased rapidly, and the paper mill was also used more frequently. A separate locomotive was soon necessary for the siding, as the shunting work could no longer be carried out by the mainline locomotives. For this reason, a steam storage locomotive was stationed in Neustadt in 1910 , which made the trips to the paper mill. A second steam locomotive was purchased after the First World War. The steam locomotives were in operation until shortly before the siding was shut down, and diesel locomotives only took over handovers a few years earlier. One steam locomotive was preserved as a memorial, the other has since been scrapped. In 1984 the siding was shut down, during this period the general cargo traffic to Neustadt was also stopped. The goods shed, the loading ramp and the loading road have since been demolished. In 2004 the rail connection to the paper mill was reopened. Since then he has been serving Technocell Dekor GmbH & Co KG, a company belonging to the Felix Schoeller Group . The car will be a locomotive of the series 294 brought over the rear Höllentalbahn. After that, the car will be a two-way - Unimog moved the factory.

Bus transport

Neustadt train station has a bus station to the side of the reception building in the direction of Freiburg. In the network of the Südbadenbus , a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, Neustadt forms a hub in bus traffic. There are bus connections to Hüfingen , Löffingen , Lenzkirch , Bonndorf , Seebrugg , Feldberg and Hammereisenbach . Until 2018, there was a Südbadenbus customer center in Neustadt.
