history

Recording from 2011

After the citizens of Reutlingen had actively participated in the revolution of 1848/49 , the Württemberg state government deliberately delayed the construction of the railway line from Plochingen to Reutlingen. The station was finally opened on September 20, 1859. It was originally 575 meters long and up to 86 meters wide. He had an administration and a customs house , a goods shed , a locomotive remise and a repair workshop with water station as well as a covered loading platform.

The Reutlingen – Schelklingen railway branched off at Reutlingen's main station until 1994 , the section of which from Reutlingen to Kleinengstingen has now been closed and dismantled. The Gönninger Bahn , which connected Reutlingen with Gönningen , also branched off here until 1985 . In addition, from 1899 on, the Reutlingen – Eningen steam-powered local train ran from the station forecourt to Eningen under Achalm , and in 1912 it became the Reutlingen electric tram , which ran until 1974.

In the future it is planned to reactivate both the route via Pfullingen to Schelklingen and that to Eningen as part of the Neckar-Alb regional light rail .
