geography

Sondelfingen is located north of the Achalm on the western slope of the Reichenbach valley and around two kilometers northeast of the Reutlingen core town.

history

From the 11th century, Sondelfingen belonged to the Achalm county. In 1609, the village was incorporated into the Urach Oberamt as an independent municipality . The Oberamt Urach was dissolved in 1938, so Sondelfingen came to the district of Reutlingen and was incorporated into Reutlingen on April 1, 1939.

  • Evangelical parish hall Sondelfingen ivy
Town hall or old school (Reichenecker Straße)
  • Evangelical St. John's Church
  • Evangelical Stephanuskirche: The Stephanuskirche was first mentioned in 1275 in the tithe book of the Diocese of Constance . Until the 17th century, the small church interior was combined with the sacristy. It is probably the original church of the place. The oldest building structure that still exists today dates from the 12th century. A few decades after the Thirty Years War , significant changes were made to the appearance of St. Stephen's Church. The church was extended to the south, the interior was redesigned, the north wall was decorated with the 12 apostles and the east and south walls were decorated with scenes and quotations from the Bible. The beam and ceiling planks of the wooden ceiling were provided with richly decorated painting. The last expansion of the church took place between 1769 and 1771. During the work, some of the pictures from 1686 were destroyed or hidden under plaster and paneling. During an investigation in 1970, Gothic paintings from the first decade of the 14th century were found on the east wall. They represent the two saints Andreas and Matthias, flanked by banners with their names. The painting from 1686 was exposed again during a renovation in 1980/81.
  • Rectory: built in 1783
  • Evangelical parish hall Efeu (Rangenbergstraße)
  • New Apostolic Church

coat of arms

The shield is divided into two halves. One half with three black stag sticks reminds of the gradual purchase of the town of Württemberg. The second half is modeled on the coat of arms of the Akhalmgraves, but with different colors.
