history

Oberamt Urach, territorial status 1813, with the earlier office boundaries

The city of Urach had been the capital of a Württemberg bailiwick since the end of the 13th century . The resulting old Württemberg office, since 1758 Oberamt, comprised around 70 places in the 16th century and remained the largest administrative unit in the duchy even after the Münsingen office had been separated in 1654 and the Pfullingen office in 1699. In 1808, in the course of the reorganization of the higher offices, the district had to cede further places: the sub office Willmandingen to the upper office Reutlingen and the sub offices Laichingen and Steingebronn to the upper office Münsingen. This contrasted with only a small increase in the area in the form of Aglishardt, which, as a former grangie of the Bebenhausen monastery, remained with the monastery office there after the Reformation. After the reorganization, the neighbors were the Württemberg regional offices of Nürtingen , Kirchheim , Geislingen , Münsingen , Reutlingen and Tübingen .
