history

Oberamt Gaildorf, territorial status 1813, with the previous rule
boundaries legend

The ancestral lands of the Limpurg taverns had been divided between the Gaildorf and Sontheim lines since the 15th century . When both lines died out in the male line in 1690 and 1713, a total of seven parts of the country were created through the division between the two or five daughters entitled to inheritance , the owners of which subsequently changed frequently. Württemberg began to buy up individual parts in 1780, the rest of them came under Württemberg sovereignty in 1806 by means of the Rhine Federation Act. The Oberamt Gaildorf, formed in 1807, initially comprised six of the seven parts of the country. In 1808 the previously independent office of Schmiedelfeld was incorporated, at the same time various minor border changes were made. Neighbors of the district assigned to the Jagstkreis from 1818 to 1924 were the regional offices of Gmünd , Aalen , Ellwangen , Crailsheim , Welzheim , Hall , Weinsberg and Backnang .
