Rommelsbach was first mentioned in 1089/1090 in a donation to the Zwiefalten monastery . Thereafter, the Reutlingen patrician family Teufel were local lords, who sold Altenburg, Degerschlacht and Sickenhausen in 1444 to Count Ludwig von Württemberg . Thus Rommelsbach belonged to the Oberamt Tübingen . In 1938 the place came to the district of Reutlingen, on July 1, 1974 it was incorporated into the city of Reutlingen. From 1928 to 1970 Rommelsbach was also connected to the city center by the Reutlingen tram .

At the end of the 1990s, the Mähder development area was built on the southern outskirts. Previously, there was agricultural land there.
