Jaroslav Plašil [ ˈjaroslav ˈplaʃɪl ] (born January 5, 1982 in Opočno ) is a Czech national football player . Plašil has played for the Czech national soccer team since 2004 and took part in the 2004 , 2008 and 2012 European soccer championships as well as the 2006 soccer world championship . Since June 2016 he has been one of only four Czechs to have played 100 international matches. At club level, he has been under contract with the French first division club Girondins Bordeaux since 2009 , with whom he won the French Cup in 2013.
Career
societies
After Plašil had started his professional career at SK Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic, he moved to the French first division club AS Monaco in 1999 . In the 2002/03 season he was loaned to the Ligue 2 club US Créteil . From the 03/04 season he played again in Monaco .
He played 113 times for AS Monaco and scored five goals. His greatest successes include two thirds and one second place in the French league and reaching the 2004 UEFA Champions League final.
At the end of August 2007, Plašil moved to CA Osasuna . In Pamplona he signed a four-year contract, the transfer fee, according to Spanish media, was 2.2 million euros. In July 2009 the Czech moved to the French champions Girondins Bordeaux .
One of his first games for Bourdeaux was the Supercup Final 2009 , which was played in Montreal , Canada and won 2-0 against EA Guingamp . In the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League , they met in the group stage, for which they qualified directly, in the first game against Juventus and Plašil drew a 1-1 draw in the 75th minute. This was the only point loss, all other games were won, u. a. also against the German record champions FC Bayern Munich . As group winners, they reached the knockout round, where they eliminated Olympiacos in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals, they met their league rivals Olympique Lyon . After a 1: 3 defeat in Lyon, the 1: 0 in the second leg was not enough to reach the semi-finals. In the league it did not go optimally either and as sixth they missed the European competitions. A year later, the sixth would have at least qualified for the UEFA Europa League, but Bordeaux only finished seventh. In the 2011/12 season she was then able to qualify for the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League , where they advanced to the round of 16, but lost both games there against the eventual finalists Benfica Lisbon . The championship season 2012/13 they finished seventh, which they again missed the European competitions. Things went better in the cup and on May 31, 2013, he led Bourdeaux as team captain into the cup final , which was won 3-2 against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard .
In the 2013/2014 season he was awarded after four league games to the Italian first division club Catania Calcio , but he could not help avoid relegation.
He returned to Bordeaux for the 2014/15 season and was then able to qualify with the club in sixth place for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League , where they only drew four times in the group stage and lost two games, leaving them bottom of the group. In the league they even ended up only on a disappointing 11th place.
National team
Plašil went through the Czech junior teams. With the U-21 team he took part in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 2004 . The Czechs reached the playoff games against Switzerland as group winners. After a 2-1 win in Switzerland, they also lost the home game 2-1 after extra time and then had the worse shooters in the subsequent penalty shoot-out, although he was one of the three Czechs who were able to convert their penalty. Unlucky was his teammate Jiří Koubský , who scored the 2-1 winner in the first game and the goal to lead 1-0 in the second game, but then sealed the 2-1 defeat with an own goal. This was his last U-level game.
On March 31, 2004, he came in Dublin in the 2-1 defeat in the friendly against Ireland for his first appearance for the national team of his country when he came on in the 69th minute. In preparation for the 2004 European Championship, he was substituted on for his second international match in a 3-1 win against Bulgaria on June 2 and scored his first international goal four minutes later , making it 2-0. He was then also nominated for the 2004 European Championships , where he started in the group game against runner-up world champions Germany , when the Czechs, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals, spared some regular players, but still won 2-1, which meant that the record European champions were eliminated. His team then survived the quarter-finals without him, but lost in the semifinals through a Dilver Goal against eventual European champions Greece .
After that, however, he had to wait eight months for his next assignment. In March 2005 he came back into play and was substituted on regularly from then on, for example in five qualifying games for the 2006 World Cup , which the Czechs reached through the play-off games of the group runners-up. On March 1, 2006, he played the friendly game against Turkey in his eleventh international match for the first time over 90 minutes, but was substituted in the 90th minute. At the World Cup he was in the starting line-up in the three games and was only substituted when the score was 0: 1 in the 2-0 draw against Ghana . Since the Czechs also lost to eventual world champions Italy, they were eliminated after the group stage.
In the subsequent qualification for the EM 2008 he was used in all games and scored his second international goal to make it 3-0 against the Germans who had already qualified for the EM. The Czechs overtook Germany with their victory and became group winners. At the European Championship finals, he and the Czech Republic won the opening game against Switzerland with 0: 1, but then lost to Portugal with 1: 3. In the last group game against Turkey , a draw was enough for them to reach the quarter-finals. Plašil scored the 2-0 for the Czechs in the 62nd minute and was replaced in the 80th minute when the score was 2-1. In the final minutes, the Turks were able to score two more goals, which meant they reached the quarter-finals instead of the Czechs.
They qualified for the 2010 World Cup as the best-placed team in the group in the FIFA world rankings, but already gambled away the qualification in the first two games, in which they only scored one point against the Northern Irish and Poland, who were later placed behind them . In the end, they had to give way to neighboring Slovakia and Slovenia .
They finished the group stage of qualifying for the EM 2012 in second place behind defending champions and world champions Spain , but then prevailed in the relegation games of the group runners-up with two wins against Montenegro . Plašil was used in seven group games in which he scored two goals and the two playoff games. Shortly before that, on September 6, 2011, he was allowed to lead the Czech team onto the field for the first time as team captain in a friendly against Ukraine, which was won 4-0 .
At the European Championship finals, in which he played over 90 minutes in all of the Czechs' games, the group stage was the opposite of four years before: the Czechs lost their first game 4-1 against Russia , but then won against ex- European champions Greece and hosts Poland, through which they reached the quarter-finals. Here, however, they lost 1-0 to Portugal with a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo .
They lost their qualification for the 2014 World Cup with a surprising home defeat against Armenia, to which they lost for the first time and later only finished third.
The qualification for the EM 2016 went better, even if they could only make the group win with a 3-2 win against the Dutch who did not qualify for the EM. Plašil came in the qualification but only to five missions, where he only played twice over 90 minutes.
On May 19, he was appointed to the provisional European Championship squad with 28 players. In the first test match after that he scored the 1-0 in a 6-0 win against Malta with his seventh international goal and was then taken into account for the final squad four days later. On June 5th, he made his 100th international match as the fourth Czech in the last European Championship friendly against South Korea , which was lost 2-1 . After that he was part of the regular team in all three European Championship games.
After the preliminary round from the Czechs, Plašil announced his resignation from the national team after 103 international matches. This was announced by coach Pavel Vrba after the 2-0 draw against the Turkish team in the last game.
