Beginnings and Girondins Bordeaux

With 11 years Baysse occurred at FC Saint-Médard-en-Jalles one, a small club in the suburbs of Bordeaux . After he had convinced at a talent inspection day, he played from then on for the youth selection of Girondins Bordeaux in central defense, but without being a member of the youth academy. Baysse described in an interview that they only kept him at Girondins because he “lived next door”. He was only signed when he was 17, after Stade Rennes had also expressed interest.

Baysse signed his first professional contract at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, but he did not come to any professional use with the Bordelais .

CS Sedan-Ardennes

For the 2007/08 season, Baysse was loaned to Sedan with no purchase option . In his first Ligue 2 game on October 2, 2007 against Angers, he scored his first goal. He played 23 games for the Ardennes club this season, his first on a professional level.

Since he saw no chance of playing time with Bordeaux after his loan, he signed after several trial training (including with the Blackburn Rovers ) for three years in Sedan . From 2008 to 2010 he formed the central defense with Ismael Traoré at the Sedanais . After strong performances in the 2009/10 season, Baysse was elected to Ligue 2's team of the year .

Stade Brest

A few days before the end of the transfer period, he moved to Ligue 1 promoted Stade Brest . Paul Baysse made his debut in the French premier league on September 18, 2010 in Brest's 2-0 away win in Nancy when he came on as a substitute for injured right-back Brahim Ferradj in the second half. His first goal for the Bretons , Baysse, who was playing as a right-back at the time, scored on November 30 in a 4-1 home win against RC Lens .

In the next two years, Baysse established himself as a central defender in Ligue 1 and scored three more goals.

On January 2, 2013, Baysse tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee. On the one hand this meant his personal season off, on the other hand it marks the beginning of his long history of injuries.

AS Saint-Etienne

On July 4, 2013, the message appeared on the website of Stade Brest, which has meanwhile been relegated from Ligue 1 , that Paul Baysse will leave the club in the direction of AS Saint-Étienne . Six days later, the Stéphanois also confirmed the commitment of the defender, who was number 23 in Saint-Étienne . Exactly one month later, the newcomer tore the cruciate ligament of his right knee in a preparatory game for the second team against Grenoble Foot 38, which meant that he was not used for the professional team this season.

After a good preparation for the 2014/15 season , Baysse was scheduled to replace regular central defenders Loïc Perrin and Moustapha Bayal Sall, but when Perrin was out for six weeks, Baysse also sustained a muscle injury. In his absence, Florentin Pogba was able to play in the team. He played his first game in the shirt of Saint-Étienne more than a year after signing, on September 18, 2014 in the goalless Europa League game in Azerbaijan against Qarabağ Ağdam . Almost two years after his last league appearance, he celebrated his Ligue 1 comeback on December 3 at the game in Montpellier , in which he also scored his first goal for the Stéphanois .

On January 25, 2015, Baysse attracted attention when Zlatan Ibrahimović asked him after a heated duel "Who are you actually?" And Baysse just looked for the name on Ibrahimovic's jersey. Overall, Baysse came in the jersey of Saint-Étienne on only 10 starting eleven appearances, which is why he was looking for a "new project" at the beginning of the new season.

OGC Nice

On August 6, 2015, Baysse signed a one-year loan agreement with OGC Nice , in which a purchase obligation was stipulated for at least 20 starting eleven appearances. As the undisputed regular central defender under coach Claude Puel , he reached this mark on matchday 28 at the home game against SC Bastia , which extended his contract on the Côte d'Azur for a fee of € 500,000 until 2017.

The consistently good performance alongside Maxime Le Marchand earned him the appointment of team captain at the beginning of the 2016/17 season by the new coach Lucien Favre . After he scored his first goal for the Niçois in the home game against AS Monaco on the 6th match day of the new season , he retained his status as a regular player for the entire season despite repeated bad luck with injuries and ended up making 22 league appearances. Shortly before the end of the season, Baysse announced that it would not renew his expiring contract in the south of France .

Málaga CF

On June 27, 2017, Paul Baysse announced that he would be joining the Spanish first division club FC Málaga for three years for the next season . Baysse scored his first goal in the Andalusian jersey on September 23, 2017 in a 3-3 draw with Athletic Bilbao .

Return to Bordeaux

On January 10, 2018, however, his hometown club, the French first division club Girondins Bordeaux , announced the renewed commitment of Baysse after 2006. He signed a contract until 2021.

National team

From the U-17 onwards, Paul Baysse went through all of France's youth national teams.

His greatest successes on an international level are the semi-finals at the U-19 European Championship in 2007 and third place at the 2010 Toulon youth tournament.

Private

Paul Baysse grew up in a sports-loving family. His father played rugby , his mother volleyball . In addition to professional football, Baysse has been a passionate surfer and skier from childhood.

Baysse is married and has two sons.
