Alexander Djiku (born August 9, 1994 in Montpellier ) is a French football player of Ghanaian descent who is under contract with the first division club Racing Strasbourg .

Career

Alexander Djiku was born in Montpellier in the south of France to a Ghanaian father and a Senegalese mother. He comes from the youth department of SC Bastia , where he was promoted to the reserve team for the 2012/13 season. He made his debut for the first team on December 18, 2013 in the 1: 2 away defeat against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard , when he came on in the 83rd minute for Féthi Harek . In the following years he was only used sporadically, but in the 2015/16 season he made his breakthrough as a regular player in right full defense . This season he completed 20 league games. Due to a broken arm, he had to take a break of two months in autumn 2016, but then established himself again in the starting XI. On December 21, 2016 (19th match day) he scored his first league goal in a 2-1 home defeat against Olympique Marseille . He moved to the position of central defender in this 2016/17 season and made 23 league appearances in which he scored a goal.

After Bastia was relegated to the second highest French division , Alexander Djiku joined SM Caen on July 11, 2017 . The first division paid two million euros for his services and equipped him with a four-year contract. He made his debut on August 5, 2017 (1st matchday) in the 0-1 away defeat against HSC Montpellier . In his first season 2017/18 he was considered a regular player and was used in 28 league games. In the following season 2018/19 he retained his status as a regular player. On April 20, 2019 (33rd matchday), he scored the decisive winning goal for the Vikings in a 1-0 away win against OGC Nice . In total, he was used in 31 league games in which he was able to record this goal.

On July 5, 2019, Alexander Djiku moved to Racing Strasbourg for a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros , where he signed a four-year contract. He made his debut on July 25, 2019 in a 3-1 home win against Maccabi Haifa in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for his new employer. He also quickly established himself as a regular at the Coureurs . On February 9, 2020 (24th matchday), he scored his first league goal in a 3-0 home win against Stade Reims . This 2019/20 season , he played 25 league games in which he scored a goal.
