Stade Malherbe Caen Calvados Basse-Normandie is a French football club from the Norman city of Caen in the Calvados department . In the 2016/17 season , Caen will play in the top division of France for the third time in a row .
history
The club was founded in 1891 or 1897 as Union Athlétique du Lycée Malherbe , which was soon renamed Club Malherbe Caennais ; In 1913 the club (after a merger with the Club Sportif Caennais ) took on the name Stade Malherbe Caen . Caen has had its current name since 1989. The club colors are red and blue; the league team plays at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano , which has a capacity of 21,500 and in 1993 replaced the Stade de Venoix .
The club's president is Jean-François Fortin; the first team has been coached by Patrice Garande since 2012 .
