Burak Yılmaz (born July 15, 1985 in Antalya ) is a Turkish football player .

Club career

Burak Yılmaz began his career with Antalyaspor in the 2002/03 season . In two years, he developed into an important player for the then second division team. Beşiktaş Istanbul signed the young talent before the 2006/07 season.

In his first season for Beşiktaş, Yılmaz was one of the regulars. In the same season, Burak was appointed to the Turkish national football team by national coach Fatih Terim . At the end of the season he won the Turkish Cup with Beşiktaş Istanbul . For Yılmaz it was the first club success. In the following season, Yılmaz was not used often at Beşiktaş. His new coach Ertuğrul Sağlam did not plan with the striker. So he left Beşiktaş in the winter by swapping players with Filip Hološko , and from then on played for Manisaspor . At Manisaspor he made 16 of 17 league games and scored nine goals. Then he signed Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Under the Spaniard Luis Aragonés , Burak Yılmaz was only a supplementary player. When Christoph Daum , the striker could not recommend to why he also Eskişehirspor on loan. During the winter break of the 2009/10 season, Burak changed his club again as part of a player swap. Fenerbahçe Istanbul signed Gökhan Ünal . In return, Trabzonspor received Burak Yılmaz.

For Trabzonspor Yılmaz played 11 games in the second half of the season and scored three goals. At the end of the season he was again the Turkish Cup winner. He also played a crucial role in the championship fight of the 2009/10 season. Fenerbahçe met Trabzonspor in Istanbul on the last day of the match. Fenerbahçe lost the championship to Bursaspor by Yılmaz's equalizing goal to make it 1-1 . In the 2010/11 season Yılmaz was even with Trabzonspor in the championship race, but with the happier end for Fenerbahçe. Trabzonspor was runner-up. Yılmaz scored 19 goals and was the top scorer after Alex .

In the 2011/12 season , Yılmaz became the top scorer for the first time in his career. He scored 33 goals in 34 games and set a new record as a Trabzonspor player. The previous record holder at Trabzonspor was Fatih Tekke with 31 goals in the 2004/05 season.

Before the start of the 2012/13 season, Yılmaz moved again to Istanbul . Galatasaray Istanbul signed him and used his € 5 million release clause. He signed for a four year plus one year option. With this move, Burak Yilmaz is after Sergen Yalçın the second player in Turkish football who plays or has played for Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor. Burak Yilmaz scored his first goal for Galatasaray on September 2, 2012 in the league game against Bursaspor, which ended 3-2 for Galatasaray. In the Champions League on November 7, 2012, he scored a hat trick in Galatasaray's 3-1 away win against Cluj . On May 5, 2013 he celebrated his first championship title and was the top scorer of the Süper Lig for the second time in the 2012/13 season . With his goal on November 23, 2013 against Sivasspor , he was the 32nd player to make it into the 100'ler Kulübü the Süper Lig made it.

For Galatasaray, Yılmaz scored 82 goals in 142 competitive games.

On February 16, 2016, Burak Yılmaz was presented to the Chinese first division club Beijing Guoan . The transfer fee was eight million euros.

In June he moved back to Trabzonspor in Turkey . The reason for the move was a custody battle over his children.

From January 2019 to July 2020 he played again for Besiktas Istanbul. The transfer fee was 1.36 million euros. In the summer of 2020, Yılmaz moved to France for Lille OSC .

National team

Yılmaz has been part of the squad of Turkish junior selections since 2001. With the U-19s he took part in the finals of the U-19 European Championship in 2004 and lost 1-0 with his team only in the final Spain. A year later he was also part of the squad at the Junior World Cup in the Netherlands in 2005 , when he failed again with the U-20 team in the round of 16 against Spain.

He made his debut in the Turkish senior team on April 12, 2006 against Azerbaijan . He scored his first international goal on June 3, 2011 against Belgium . Yılmaz became the first player in the history of the Turkish national soccer team to score a goal in four consecutive games.

On June 5, 2016 in the test match for the 2016 European Championship against Slovenia, he scored his 20th goal for the Turkish national soccer team. This makes him only the fourth player to have reached the 20-goal mark for international goals.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Turkish squad . In the first tournament game against Croatia, he was substituted on when the score was 0: 1 in the last third of the game. In the following two games against Spain and the Czech Republic, he was in the starting line-up. He scored the first tournament goal for the Turks in the last game and brought his team to victory with a 1-0 win. Despite the success, it was not enough to advance. After the game, Yılmaz was named Player of the Game.

Burak Yılmaz scored his 23rd international goal on June 11, 2017 and is the most successful goalscorer of the Turkish national football team after Hakan Şükür .

Burak Yılmaz's father Fikret Yılmaz was also a professional footballer and was a goalkeeper. He played for Adanaspor , Antalyaspor and Ankaragücü and later worked as a coach. Burak Yılmaz has been married since June 2014 and has two daughters.
