Ömer Kaner (born May 21, 1951 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and today's coach.

Player career

Club career

Kaner began his career in the 1973/74 season at Eskişehirspor . In his first season, in the first division, he scored ten goals in 27 games and the following season 14 goals, making him top scorer in the 194/75 season. For the 1975/76 season he moved to the reigning champions Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In the two years Kaner could not confirm his performance, in 33 first division games he hit the gate seven times. He went to Zonguldakspor , returned to Eskişehirspor and still played for Bakırköyspor and Fatih Karagümrük SK .

The performance he showed in his first two years could not be found with any of these teams.

National team

Kaner played his only international match for Turkey against Pakistan on January 18, 1974.

Coaching career

His first station as a coach was Zeytinburnuspor . In 1991 he became assistant coach at Fenerbahçe Istanbul , at the side of Guus Hiddink . Later he was also assistant coach to Todor Veselinović . From 1993 he continued his coaching career as head coach. At the end of the 1993/94 season, he helped Denizlispor rise to the Süper Lig . His later engagements were unsuccessful.

Since 2006 Kaner coached the Turkish national futsal team .
