Todor "Toza" Veselinović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Тодор Веселиновић ; born October 22, 1930 in Belgrade , Serbia ; † May 17, 2017 in Athens , Greece ) was a Yugoslav football player and Serbian football coach.

Career

Veselinović started his footballing career at FK Vojvodina Novi Sad, his further career initially took him to FK Partizan Belgrade before moving back to FK Vojvodina Novi Sad a year later. In July 1961 he moved to Italy to Sampdoria Genoa . From 1962 to 1964 he played for First Vienna FC , from there he moved to Union Saint-Gilloise in July 1964 . From 1965 to 1968 he played for SK Austria Klagenfurt / FC Kärnten where he ended his active career as a soccer player.

In the Yugoslav national team he played successfully for eight years (1953-1961). He made his debut on May 14, 1953 in a 3-1 win against Belgium in Brussels, his last appearance took place on June 4, 1961 in a 2-1 home win against Poland. In between, he took part in the World Cup finals in 1954 and 1958 and scored three goals in four games in the second. Measured by the hit rate, he has been the most successful striker of all time for the Yugoslav national team.

Change to the coaching office

He later began a coaching career, including at Independiente Santa Fe , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and other Turkish and several Greek teams. With Fenerbahçe Istanbul he won two championships (1985 and 1989). He also looked after the Yugoslav national football team during the European Football Championship in France in 1984 . However, the team lost all three games. His time as national coach was characterized by frequent rotation of the line-up; in 25 games Veselinović managed to field 59 players.
