society
David Lafata began playing football at JZD Olešník and moved to SK České Budějovice at the age of eleven .
The attacker made his first appearances in the professional team in the 1999/00 season, but remained, as in the following season, without a goal. That changed only in the 2001/02 season in the 2nd division. Lafata scored his first goal for SK České Budějovice on the last day of the first half of the season against Baník Ratíškovice . In the second half of the season he was loaned to FC Vysočina Jihlava , for which he played five games in which he scored a goal. During the second half of the season he returned to Budějovice and contributed another six hits to the team's promotion to the first division.
In January 2005 he rejected a contract extension with his previous club and signed a contract valid from July 2005 with the Greek first division club Skoda Xanthi . He was then deported to the B-team by the club's management. After a few weeks he was allowed to train and play with the senior team again. The engagement in Xanthi was not very successful for Lafata, he remained in nine games without a goal.
In January 2006 he moved to FK BAUMIT Jablonec in the Czech league , for which he scored four goals in 14 games in 2005/06. At the end of August 2006, after a very successful start to the season, coach Karel Brückner was appointed to the Czech national team for the game against Wales . He was substituted on in the 75th minute of the game and scored two goals, the Czech Republic won 2-1.
At the end of January 2007 he moved to FK Austria Wien in Austria . With the violets he was the ÖFB Cup winner in the same year , where he headed the equalizer in the 2-1 against SV Mattersburg . In 2007/08 he played with Austria in the UEFA Cup group stage. At the end of July 2008 Lafata went back to FK Jablonec. Lafata scored ten league goals in the first season after his return and eleven in the following season. In the 2010/11 season he was the top scorer in the Gambrinus League with 19 goals . His good form continued in the first half of the 2011/12 season, in which he scored 17 goals in 14 games. In the North Bohemian derby against Slovan Liberec on November 26, 2011 Lafata scored his 100th first division goal and thus became a member of the club ligových kanonýrů .
In January 2013 he moved to Sparta Prague .
