career

Career as a player

Stramaccioni played as a defender during his time as an active player for FC Bologna , but had to end his career after a short time due to a serious knee injury.

Career as a coach

Stramaccioni began his coaching career in the youth and amateur field. After he was able to celebrate some successes there, AS Roma noticed him and hired Stramaccioni as a coach in the youth field. Although he was able to celebrate some successes with the youth of the "Giallorossi", he was dismissed after the club was taken over by an American consortium led by the investor Thomas DiBenedetto. Then Stramaccioni hired as a youth coach at Inter Milan , who had already shown interest in him before his commitment by AS Roma.

With the Primavera of the "Nerazzurri", Stramaccioni won the first edition of the NextGen Series on March 25, 2012 , a youth tournament in which youth teams from numerous top European clubs take part. In the final in London , the youth team of Ajax Amsterdam could be defeated on penalties .

Just one day later, Stramaccioni succeeded Claudio Ranieri as coach of Inter's senior team. His first league game as head coach of the "Nerazzurri" on April 1, 2012 ended in a 5-4 win over CFC Genoa . Following the 2011/12 season , Stramaccioni, who was initially only viewed as a transition coach, was given a three-year contract. After Inter had ended the 2012/13 season but only in ninth place in the table, the dismissal of Stramaccioni was announced on May 24, 2013. His successor at the Milanese was Walter Mazzarri .

After Francesco Guidolin's resignation as coach at Udinese Calcio , Stramaccioni was introduced as his successor on June 4, 2014. His commitment ended after a year after the traditional Friulian club decided not to extend the contract, which expired on June 30, 2015.

Trivia

Stramaccioni has a doctorate in law .

After his success with the Inter Milan youth team at the NextGen Series, the Roman was referred to by Gazzetta dello Sport as the “Mourinho of young talents”. This is a reference to the Portuguese coach José Mourinho , who won the Champions League with the Inter A-team in 2010 .

Stramaccioni is known for its ability to promote young talent and get them fit for Serie A.
