Tomáš Rosický [ ˈtɔmaːʃ ˈrɔsitskiː ] (born October 4, 1980 in Prague ) is a former Czech football player .

Tomáš Rosický began his career at ČKD Kompresory Prague (now FK Bohemians Prague ) and moved to Sparta Prague at the age of eight . There he became a first division player at an early age and won the Czech championship three times from 1999 to 2001.

From the winter break of the 2000/01 season Rosický played for Borussia Dortmund , which had secured the player in competition with FC Bayern with the Bundesliga record of 14.5 million euros at the time. In the following season he became German champion and moved into the UEFA Cup final with BVB , in which he lost 3-2 with Borussia against Feyenoord Rotterdam . In the 2004/05 season he could not build on the form of the last few years because he had to fight injuries and his club had plunged into a sporting and financial crisis. Due to the financial situation of BVB, there were rumors of an early departure from Rosický.

During the 2006 summer break, Rosický moved to the English Champions League finalists Arsenal FC . After an injury in late January 2008, he missed the rest of the season and the European Championship. On December 29, 2013 Rosický completed his 200th game for Arsenal.

In the summer of 2016, Rosicky returned to his youth club AC Sparta Prague after more than 15 years abroad.

He ended his career on December 20, 2017. His farewell match took place on June 8, 2018 in Prague's Generali Arena . His Czech team with Jan Koller , Petr Čech and others won 5-2 against a World Team consisting of Jens Lehmann , Robin van Persie and other former companions.

National team

Rosický made his debut in the Czech national team on February 23, 2000 in a game against Ireland . In the same year he was used twice at the European Championships in Belgium and Holland . His first major international tournament as a regular player was the 2004 European Championship in Portugal , where his team reached the semi-finals.

He was also part of the squad at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In the first group game against the USA he scored two goals. After Pavel Nedvěd had announced his resignation from the national team, Rosický was appointed the new team captain. At the European Championship 2008 in Austria and Switzerland Rosický could not take part because of his injury.

Although he was not a top-flight had denied a whole season and could injury-free complete a few test matches only at the end of the season, he became at 35 years again for the UEFA EURO 2016 in France in the Czech squad called. He was a regular in the first two games against Spain and Croatia, then injured again. The team had only got one point and also lost the decisive third game, which meant the end of the European Championship.
