The FK Bohemians Prague is a Czech football club from the Prague Prosek. Until the summer of 2005 he appeared under the name FC Střížkov Praha 9. After bankruptcy proceedings had been initiated against FC Bohemians Prague , FC Střížkov Praha acquired 9 name and logo rights from the entire club TJ Bohemians Prague and renamed itself.

Club history

The club was created in 1996 from a merger of TJ Kompresory and FC Střížkov. TJ Kompresory was founded in 1905 as Tatra Prosek. FC Střížkov was founded in 1931 under the name FC Star Praha 8. The Czech international Tomáš Rosický began his career at TJ ČKD Kompresory .

ČKD Kompresory rose in 1982/83 to the Divize, the fourth highest Czech division. In the 1990/91 season, the team rose, but immediately back on. The next descent followed in 1994/95.

The FC Střížkov rose in 1993/94 in the Pražský přebor, the five-tier Prague city league.

In the 1995/96 season, the team that met the future merger partner Kompresory that season won the championship and rose to the Divize.

In the 1998/99 season Střížkov reached a second place for promotion to the Česká fotbalová liga , the third highest division in Czech football, because the B team of Dukla Příbram waived despite relegation to participate. Střížkov played in the third division year after year in the top group. In the 2000/01 season the team was runner-up, in 2001/02 and 2002/03 both fifth.

Renamed to Bohemians

In the course of the bankruptcy proceedings against FC Bohemians Prague at the beginning of 2005, the entire club TJ Bohemians Praha, from which FC Bohemians had made itself independent in the early 1990s, awarded the designation Bohemians and the coat of arms with the kangaroo, both of which were in their possession, to the then third division club FC Střížkov, who registered the name Bohemians Praha with the competent authority.

At the start of the season, the conflict over the club name FC Bohemians Praha smoldered again. The Czech Football Association made it clear that it would only accept one club called Bohemians in its leagues, and that is the one that would carry on the tradition of its predecessors. In the eyes of the association officials, this was clearly AFK Vršovice as , which changed its name to Bohemians 1905 as about a month before the start of the season . Since FC Střížkov Praha 9 refused to reverse its renaming to FC Bohemians Praha, the club was unceremoniously excluded from the game. When the president of FC Střížkov Praha 9, Karel Kapr, did not succeed in appealing to the association, he sued a civil court. This arranged the reintegration of Bohemians Prague (formerly FC Střížkov Praha 9) into the current game operations by means of an injunction.

Bohemians Prague won the western group of the 3rd division, the so-called ČFL, in the 2006/07 season and rose to the professional 2nd division . The professional team played their home games in the Na Chvalech stadium of SC Xaverov in the Horní Počernice district this season .

Promotion to the 1st division

In the 2007/08 season Bohemians won the 2nd division and thus rose to the Gambrinus League . In the 2008/09 season the professional team played their home games in the Viktoria stadium of FK Viktoria Žižkov in the Žižkov district , in the 2009/10 season the home ground was the Evžena Rošického stadium . In the 2009/10 season, the club finished 13th in the Gambrinus League and thus managed to stay in the league.

Penal transfer to the ČFL

At the end of the season, the club was deducted 20 points and a heavy fine for the coming 2010/11 season because it had refused to compete against the rival for the naming rights to the traditional name "Bohemians", Bohemians 1905 Prague . After the club refused to pay the fine, the team was transferred to the Česká fotbalová liga , the third-highest division in Czech football. There, the club succeeded in the 2010/11 season, the championship and thus the return to the 2nd division.

The FC Střížkov Praha 9 lost in November 2011 in the last instance the legal dispute over the naming rights. Since then, FC Střížkov Praha 9 has been prohibited from using the name “Bohemians” in the competitions of the Czech association. However, the club has challenged this ruling and is ignoring the ban. In the 2013/14 season, the team was relegated to the ČFL.
