The Evžena Rošického stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Czech capital, Prague . It is located in the immediate vicinity to the west of the Strahov Stadium ; the largest stadium in the world with 220,000 seats.

history

Built from 1931 to 1935, it was initially called Masarykův Stadium after the former Czechoslovak President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk . The capacity was 50,000 places. Later it was renamed Stadium Československé armády (German: Stadium of the Czechoslovak Army ). Capacity dropped significantly in the 1990s when standing room was converted to seating.

The football club Slavia Prague played its home games here from 2000 to 2008, after the Eden Stadium , which was now demolished, had become unsuitable for the first division. It used to be one of the venues for the Czech national football team . The stadium is named today after the former athlete and resistance fighter Evžen Rošický , who was executed on June 25, 1942.

The second division SK Sparta Krč played its home games in the 2007/08 season at the Evžena Rošického stadium, as the club's place did not meet the criteria for professional football. The final of the Czech Football Cup often takes place in the stadium. From August 29 to September 3, 1978, the 12th European Athletics Championships took place in the stadium .

structure

It offers 18,775 seats. There are 213 VIP seats and 63 seats for media representatives. That with a track and field facility and a 1400 Lux powerful floodlights equipped stadium has around about two-storey stands, the top rank is covered.
