The European Athletics Championships 2020 should be held from August 26th to 30th of that year in the Stade Charléty in Paris . The European Athletics Federation (EAA) awarded the competitions to Paris on April 28, 2017. The French capital would be for the men 1938 European Athletics Championships was the second time host the European Championships.

On April 23, 2020, the European Championships were canceled by the EAA in consultation with the local organizing committee and the Fédération Française d'Athlétisme (FFA), due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
