Cheryl Ladd (* 12 July 1951 as Cheryl Jean stubble Moor in Huron , South Dakota ) is an American actress and singer .

Life

Ladd grew up with her older sister and two younger brothers in their native Huron, South Dakota, USA. Her mother Dolores Stoppelmoor worked as a waitress, her father Marion was a train driver. As a child she was already enthusiastic about singing, dancing and acting. During her school days she was active as a cheerleader and sang in a band called The Music Shop. After graduating from school in 1969, she went with the band to Los Angeles , where the group broke up a short time later. Then Ladd made the decision to become an actress.

Cheryl Ladd made her film debut under the stage name Cherie Moor in the animated television series Josie and the Pussycats when she lent her vocal voice to the character Melody Jones. She made her cinema debut under this name in the following year in the action drama Chrome and Hot Leather . She was also seen in several commercials and played supporting roles in various television series . In the series The Rookies (1972) and the television film Satan's School for School Girls (1973) she first met Kate Jackson , at whose side she would later play in the television series Charlie's Angels . On the set of Treasure of Jamaica Reef (1973) she met her future husband David Ladd.

She celebrated her breakthrough in the 1970s with the series Charlie's Angels , in which she played the role of Kris Munroe from 1977 to the end of 1981 as the successor to Farrah Fawcett alongside Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith . This was followed by leading roles in television films such as the drama When She Was Bad ... (1979) alongside Robert Urich , in which she plays a mother who beats her daughter; in addition Grace Kelly (1983), Jekyll & Hyde (1990) or the Danielle Steel film adaptation Changes (1991). Ladd was also rarely seen in cinema productions such as the war epic Once Hell and Back (1984) or the sci-fi adventure Millennium (1989). In the thriller Poison Ivy (1992) she played alongside Sara Gilbert , Drew Barrymore and Tom Skerritt . From 1994 to 1996 she had a leading role in the television series One West Waikiki , which was discontinued after two seasons. Between 2003 and 2008 she played a supporting character in the hit series Las Vegas .

Cheryl Ladd released the less than successful single Mama Don't Be Blue for Warner in 1974 . In 1976 she signed a contract with Capitol and released the single Country Love , which was also not a hit. At the height of her success with Charlie's Angels series , she released a few singles and three studio albums. It had only one hit in the US: the single Think it Over was number 34 on the Billboard charts . The albums Cheryl Ladd (1978, number 129) and Dance Forever (1979, number 179) also made it into the hit lists. In 1978 she was a guest on the Muppet Show , where she sang I Enjoy Being a Girl in a duet with Miss Piggy .

The following year, Ladd presented her own variety show The Chery Ladd Special on US television for the first time . Waylon Jennings and Melanie Griffith were among the guests . The show received an Emmy nomination. Other shows followed in 1980 (The Cheryl Ladd Special: Souvenirs) and 1982 (Cheryl Ladd: Scenes from a Special) . She was given a special honor on January 20, 1980; she was allowed to sing the US national anthem at Super Bowl XIV . For lack of success in the USA, she continued her singing career, especially in Japan. Their third LP Take a Chance (1981) was released exclusively there. In 1982 she released a VHS purchase video called Fascinated , in which she presented a selection of her songs.

Ladd was also active on Broadway. She played the main role in the musical Annie Get Your Gun from September 2000 . She took on the role of Bernadette Peters and gave it to country singer Reba McEntire in January 2001 .

Private life

Cheryl Ladd was married to actor David Ladd , son of Alan Ladd , from 1974 to 1980 . The marriage has the daughter Jordan Ladd , who is also an actress. In 1981 Cheryl Ladd married producer and musician Brian Russell , who was part of the duo Brian & Brenda in the 1970s .

Ladd enjoys playing golf in her spare time and has also participated in numerous celebrity tournaments in the United States. In 2005 she published a book called Token Chick: A Woman's Guide to Golfing with the Boys . It was her second book; In 1996 she and her husband Brian Russell published the children's book The Adventures of Little Nettie Windship . She is also committed to abused children, including as an ambassador for the Childhelp organization .
