Jaclyn Ellen Smith (born October 26, 1945 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actress . She gained international fame through her role as private detective Kelly Garrett in the crime series Charlie's Angels (1976–1981). Numerous successful roles, especially on television, followed, so that the New York Times referred to her as the "queen of mini-series" and the UPI news agency as the "queen of television drama".

Live and act

Jaclyn Smith is the only daughter of the dentist Jack Smith and his wife Margaret Ellen, née Hartsfield. Smith graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar Senior High School in Houston in 1964 and then studied drama at Trinity University in San Antonio . She later moved to New York City , where she appeared in television commercials and modeled for print ads.

Smith made his debut in small supporting roles in the early 1970s. She became known after she played Kelly Garrett, one of the main characters of the series, in the television series Charlie's Angels from 1976 to 1981 . She has since received several leading roles in television films such as Escape from Bogen County (1977) and The Users (1978). In the thriller Nightkill (1980) she played alongside Robert Mitchum for the first time the leading role in a movie, which was only shown briefly in a few movie theaters. For the lead role in the television film Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (1981) she was nominated for the only time for the Golden Globe Award . In 1985 she played the Florence Nightingale in another biography . She starred in the action thriller Agent Without a Name (1988) alongside Richard Chamberlain and in the thriller Nightmare Without Awakening (1992) alongside Christopher Reeve . She was seen in a cameo in the action film 3 Angels for Charlie - Full Power (2003) .

Her many roles on television often earned high ratings for the respective television stations. The Archive of American Television called Smith the "Queen of Miniseries".

Smith was featured on countless magazine covers. In February 1982 she appeared heavily pregnant on the cover of the news magazine Time with the title topic of the "new baby boom in the USA".

Smith has designed clothing for Kmart since 1985 . Four years later she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category.

Smith married four times, most recently in 1997 to the doctor Bradley Allen. His marriage from 1981 to 1989 to the British cameraman Anthony B. Richmond had two children.
