Career

society

In 1987 Dimas made his debut in the Portuguese SuperLiga at Académica Coimbra at the age of 18 . In his first professional season he was relegated to the second division with Académica , but remained loyal to them for another season. This was followed by appearances on CD Estrela Amadora and Vitória Guimarães for two years . There he showed more and more good performances and played himself in the light of the big Portuguese clubs. In 1994 the Portuguese moved to Benfica Lisbon . There, too, Dimas developed into a leading player and top European teams took notice of him. During the winter break of the 1996/97 season he signed a contract with the Italian record champions Juventus Turin . There the defender won the Italian championship under coach Marcello Lippi in 1996/97 and 1997/98 and the Italian Supercup in 1997 . Nevertheless, Dimas could not fully utilize the potential he showed in Portugal. He left the old lady for Turkey after only two years . But it didn't last long at Fenerbahçe Istanbul either and he tried his luck in Belgium at Standard Liège . After good performance at the European Football Championship in 2000 , Dimas moved back to Portugal to Lisbon's other major club , Sporting . After a disappointing two years, Teixeira went abroad again and hired Olympique Marseille on loan . After half a year there he went back to Lisbon and ended his career after the 2001/02 season at the age of 33.
