Life

Kate Jackson was born in Birmingham , Alabama , and grew up there as the elder of two daughters of Ruth and Hogan Jackson.

At the age of 16, Jackson began working as a professional model outside of school and received a. a. Orders from cosmetics manufacturers Max Factor and Revlon . After high school , she first studied history at the University of Mississippi , but moved to Birmingham-Southern College in her sophomore year to study drama. In the mid-1960s she performed one summer at the Stowe Playhouse in Vermont , which also featured Morgan Freeman and Meryl Streep . In 1968 Jackson moved to New York , where she studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts and also worked as a visitor guide for NBC .

Her first role was that of a ghost in the soap opera Dark Shadows , in which she appeared in 1970 and 1971. She then moved to Los Angeles , where she played a nurse in the television series California Cops from 1972 to 1976 .

Soon after, producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg made her an offer to play the role of private detective Sabrina Duncan in the television series Charlie's Angels . Jackson was the first "angel" to be signed, with Jaclyn Smith and Farrah Fawcett on the other two roles . The series started in the United States in September 1976 and soon became a huge success. Up to 23 million TV viewers tuned in every week, and the three leading actresses were showered with fan mail. Jackson was nominated three times for her role for an Emmy and a Golden Globe , but despite the success, she was soon dissatisfied with what the script required of her. She refused to appear in a bikini and was bothered by the series' often shallow plot. After she had to decline the offer to play the lead female role in the film Kramer versus Kramer (1979) opposite Dustin Hoffman because of the inflexible filming schedule of Charlie's Angels , she finally decided to drop the series. About her departure in 1979, she said: “I think it was not easy to work with me. In the end, I didn't know who I was anymore. I had it all and was still unhappy. My life was only focused on work and although millions of people knew and liked me, at the end of a 14-hour day of filming I was lonely and alone in my apartment. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I've never been content with just making money and functioning. "

From 1983 to 1987 she celebrated great success as an agent with a heart . In the television series, she played the divorced housewife Amanda King, who works for the secret service alongside Lee Stetson (played by Bruce Boxleitner ). The role earned her the fourth Golden Globe nomination. She was diagnosed with breast cancer while filming the fourth season in January 1987 . However, she was able to successfully fight the disease in both 1987 and 1989.

In the late 1980s played Jackson in Baby Boom (1988 to 1989), the television adaptation of the US comedy film Baby Boom - A fine mess with Diane Keaton from 1987. Recently she was in 2007 in a guest role on the television series Criminal Minds see .

Kate Jackson was married a total of three times. Her first husband from August 1978 to January 1980 was the producer, actor and director Andrew Stevens . In May 1982 she married film editor David Greenwald; the marriage was divorced in December 1984. In September 1991 she married the actor and stuntman Tom Hart; the couple divorced in 1993. In 1995 she adopted a boy.

In May 2010, Jackson filed a lawsuit against her financial advisor Richard B. Francis, alleging that he had defrauded her of more than $ 3 million. Therefore, she is facing financial ruin. Francis had previously advised her Charlie's Angels colleague Farrah Fawcett. In December 2010, the parties reached a court settlement.
