Duje Čop (born February 1, 1990 in Vinkovci ) is a Croatian football player . He is under contract with Standard Liège .

Career

society

In 2007 Čop moved into the professional squad of HNK Hajduk Split , for whom he had already played for five years as a youth. After the season he moved to the Portuguese first division club Nacional Funchal . There he could not assert himself and switched back to Hajduk Split. After he was a regular player in the first season after his return, he was advised to change at the beginning of the following season, as the new coach Krassimir Balakow no longer counted on him. As a result, he dissolved his contract with Hajduk and moved to league rivals RNK Split , where he drew Dinamo Zagreb's attention. In June 2012, Čop was signed by the Croatian record champions. In his first season at Dinamo he won the Croatian championship. Čop was the top scorer of the 2013/14 season with 22 goals .

After he was awarded to the Italian first division club Cagliari Calcio for the second half of the 2014/15 season , he was signed by Cagliari and then awarded directly to the Spanish club Málaga for the 2015/16 season .

A loan to Sporting Gijón took place for the 2016/17 season . In the next season, Čop had already played two games for Calcio before a move to Belgian first division Standard Liège was agreed shortly before the end of the transfer window, paying a transfer fee .

For the 2018/19 season, a loan to the Spanish club Real Valladolid , which plays in the Primera División , the highest Spanish league, was agreed with a subsequent purchase option. During this loan, Čop fell out several times due to injuries. After Valladolid did not make use of the purchase option, he is back in the Standard Liège squad for the 2019/20 season.

National team

Čop played for many Croatian national teams. On September 4, 2014, he played his first international match for the senior team in a 2-0 win over Cyprus.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Croatian squad , although he was still banned from the first tournament game due to a red card. After that, he was only used in the last group game against Spain when he was substituted on in the final minute.

Others

Čops father Davor was also a soccer player and, like his son, played as a striker for Hajduk Split.
