Selçuk İnan (born February 10, 1985 in İskenderun ) is a former Turkish football player .
Club career
Selçuk İnan began his youth career at his hometown club Karaağaç Belediyespor . At the age of 15 İnan took part in a selection training from Çanakkale Dardanelspor and was accepted into the youth academy because of his performance. During his youth at Çanakkale Dardanelspor, he played for the Turkish U16 and U17. His teammates included Burak Yılmaz and Emre Güngör . Back then, Selçuk was playing in midfield as a ten .
After two and a half years in Dardanelspor's second team, Metin Tekin became the first coach to bring Selçuk İnan into the first team. He made his debut at the age of 17 in the Turkish Cup against his later club Manisaspor . In addition to İnan, two other players attracted attention: Gökhan Zan and Hasan Kabze . His role in midfield changed when, as a youth player, still behind the strikers, he was pulled into defensive midfield in the first team.
In the 2005/06 season Inan played his third season for Dardanelspor. He played with the team in the Turkish Second Football League and played good games, so that he has now been appointed to the Turkish U21 team. During the winter break of the same season, at the request of Ersun Yanal Selçuk İnan was brought to Manisaspor for an unknown transfer fee and four players . A few days later another talent was loaned to Manisaspor, it was Arda Turan . Turan and İnan were roommates until the rest of the season. Until the relegation of Manisaspors in the 2007/08 season Selçuk was a regular in central midfield. A season with Manisaspor in the 2nd division was unthinkable for him. Which is why there was great interest in the three big clubs from Istanbul ( Beşiktaş , Fenerbahçe , Galatasaray ). Surprisingly, however, he did not move to Istanbul, but to Trabzonspor . His trainer there was Ersun Yanal.
The midfielder won his first title in the 2009/10 season . Under the direction of Şenol Güneş , Inan won the Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor. Before the 2010/11 season he won the Turkish Supercup with Trabzonspor . The 2010/11 season Selçuk Inan played his best season so far. He played 33 of 34 games in the Süper Lig and without a substitution. He scored two goals and gave 13 assists. İnan and Trabzonspor were runner-up behind Fenerbahçe Istanbul this season.
His contract expired on May 31, 2011 and he moved to traditional Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul on a free transfer , where he signed a five-year contract. He established himself as a regular in his first season in Istanbul and became an important pillar in the team. Inan scored 13 goals and made 17 assists in 39 league games, making him a major force in winning the championship . On the penultimate matchday of the 2019/20 season , İnan announced his retirement .
In nine years for Galatasaray Istanbul, the midfielder was five times Turkish champion and Supercup winner, he won the national cup four times. He was also the team's captain from 2014 to 2020.
National team
He made his debut for Turkey on February 7, 2007 in a friendly against Georgia . For the European Football Championship 2008 he was not taken into account. His free-kick goal in the 89th minute of the final and decisive European Championship qualifier against Iceland on October 13, 2015 enabled the Turkish national team to take part in the 2016 European Championship in France as the best third.
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Turkish squad . He was part of the regular squad and was in the starting line-up in all three games in the group stage. As one of the two worst thirds in the group, the team then retired.
