Mauro Vigliano

Mauro Vigliano (born August 5, 1975 ) is an Argentine football referee .

Mauro Vigliano made his debut in the Argentine Primera División on November 5, 2010. Since then, he has led over 160 games (as of June 2019).

Vigliano has been a FIFA referee since 2013, leading international matches. Vigliano played at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand , where he directed the opening match, and at the 2017 and 2018 FIFA Club World Cups in the United Arab Emirates . He acted as video referee at the U-20 World Cup in South Korea in 2017 .

In 2018, Vigliano was nominated by FIFA as one of 13 video referees for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . He was used in 15 games, including the opening game and the final. The first round match between France and Australia saw a novelty when Vigliano, as the video referee of referee Andrés Cunha, was responsible for the first penalty given via the VAR system at a World Cup. A year later, he also acted as video referee at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France , where he was also used in the opening game.
