Wilmar Roldán (2017)

Wilmar Alexander Roldán Pérez (born January 24, 1980 in Remedios , Antioquia ) is a Colombian football referee .

Roldán has been repeatedly criticized for his frequent wrong decisions, including at the 2014 World Cup, the 2017 Confed Cup and the 2018 World Cup.

Career

Roldán has been in the Colombian first division since 2003 and has been whistling international games since 2008.

In 2011 Roldán was nominated for the Copa America , where he was allowed to lead the game for third place. He was also used at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2014 in qualifying for the World Cup and the World Cup . In the game Mexico against Cameroon, Roldán did not recognize two goals by the Mexican Giovani dos Santos because of alleged offside. FIFA then suspended the responsible Colombian linesman Humberto Clavijo. In the match between South Korea and Algeria (2-4), he denied a penalty in the fourth minute.

On April 27, 2017, Roldán was nominated by FIFA as one of nine referees for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia . In the game between Germany and Cameroon, he made the mistake of showing the wrong Cameroonian for a foul, then even sending him off with a red card after the video referee intervened, before this was corrected again by the video referee and the correct player got the red card.

On March 29, 2018, Roldán was nominated by FIFA for the 2018 World Cup . During the preliminary round, he awarded the Saudi Arabia team a controversial foul penalty in the game against Egypt, the legitimacy of which was doubted by the video assistant, but Roldán also had it carried out according to the television images. In the match between England and Tunisia, he whistled a controversial penalty for Tunisia and in return denied the English two legitimate ones.
