Yūichi Nishimura

Yūichi Nishimura ( Japanese 西村 雄 一 , Nishimura Yūichi ; born April 17, 1972 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese football referee . He has been a FIFA referee since January 1, 2004 .

Career

Nishimura made his international debut at the 2007 U-17 World Cup in South Korea . Among other things, he whistled a quarter-finals and the final. At the Africa Cup in Ghana in 2008 he was the only non-African referee.

At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , he was one of four AFC referees . In the same year he led the final of the AFC Champions League between Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Zob Ahan Isfahan (3-1). He also played at the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup , where he oversaw two games, including the final between Inter Milan and TP Mazembe (3-0). At the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar , he played three games in the group stage. Because of the advance of the Japanese national team , he was no longer used in the final round. For the summer of 2012 he was nominated by FIFA for the Olympic Games in London .

In 2014 he took part in his second world championship. Nishimura led the opening game between hosts Brazil and Croatia , in which he awarded the Brazilian team a controversial penalty in the 71st minute when the score was 1-1, which Neymar used to open the 2-1 goal and his second goal in the game. Brazil ultimately won 3-1 after another Oscar goal . After that he was not nominated for another game at the World Cup.
