Ar-Rayyan ( Arabic الريان, DMG ar-Raiyān ), also al-Rayyan , is a city and capital of the ar-Rayyan municipality in Qatar .
In April 2015 a population of 589,531 people was counted, making it the largest city in Qatar. Ar-Rayyan is rapidly growing together with the city of Doha, which is only nine kilometers away .
The city is home to the football club Al-Rayyan Sport-Club, which plays in the Qatar Stars League . The Qatari record champions al-Sadd Sport Club also play here .
