occupation

Air Bud 3 - A dog for all balls (original title: Air Bud 3: World Pup or Air Bud 3 ) is an American-Canadian family film from 2000 directed by Bill Bannerman . It is the third film in the Air Bud series. Kevin Zegers can again be seen in the role of Josh Framm. After Josh's loyal Golden Retriever "Buddy" was already very successful in basketball and American football , he is now becoming a football star.

action

When Josh Framm falls in love with the new exchange student Emma Putter, he does everything in his power to join the school's soccer team with his dog Buddy so that he can spend more time training with Emma. Buddy, in turn, shows a keen interest in Emma's dog Molly.

The "Timberwolves", as the football team is called, play very successfully and, thanks to Buddy, also reach the final. An attempt by a coach of an opposing team to disqualify the "Timberwolves" because they have a dog in their ranks will come to nothing. As Josh hoped, he and Emma grow closer during the time together. The love between Buddy and Molly, in turn, resulted in four little puppies being born. When the puppies are kidnapped shortly after their birth, Emma and Josh's sister Andrea, in addition to Josh and Buddy, go to look for them. With combined strength, and after having overcome some difficult situations, they manage to save the little dogs from an uncertain fate and to bring them back to where their place is. Towards the end, the situation becomes precarious because the final in football is imminent and the chances of the "Timberwolves" without their star buddy are much worse.

At the last moment, so to speak, Buddy, Josh and Emma can turn everything for the better in the endgame.

Production and publication

The film was produced by Air Bud / Téléfilm Canada. It was the first film version in the series that was produced directly for the video or DVD market. Air Bud 3 was released for the German market on January 1, 2002 on DVD, published by Euro Video.

criticism

The lexicon of international films could only tell from the film that it was "at least child-friendly entertainment value". Otherwise it was found that the film adaptation in the old-fashioned Disney style promoted the humanization of animals and had only modest [...] entertainment value.

In Cinema .com criticism was not only in the formulation pejorative: "Only played the mutt basketball, then football, now 'Soccer'. Hopefully he won't kick his rugby team too! Conclusion Barking for balls, hardly any new ideas. "

Sequels

The first film in the series Air Bud - Champion on Four Paws was made in 1997. Kevin Zegers played the role of Josh Framm there, as in the following films. The first film was all about basketball . In 1998 the first sequel was staged with Air Bud 2 , also known as Air Bud 2 - Golden Receiver , in which football was the focus of sport.

With Air Bud 4 - With baseball it barks better (2002) and Air Bud 5 - Four paws strike (2003), two further sequels were created that were produced directly for the video and DVD market.

In 2006, the film Air Buddies - The Puppies Are Losing a spin-off film series came into being, which so far comprises eight parts: Snow Buddies - Adventure in Alaska (2008), Space Buddies - Mission in Space (2009), Santa Buddies - In Search of Santa Paw (2009), Spooky Buddies - The Curse of the Hallowuff Dog (2011) and Treasure Buddies - Treasure Snoopers in Egypt (2012) and Super Buddies (2013).

In 2010 there was also Santa Paw's big Christmas adventure , a prequel to Santa Buddies - In Search of Santa Paw . In 2012 the sequel Santa Paw 2 - The Christmas Puppies followed .
